Rory McIlroy overcame a three shot deficit within the first three holes at Firestone, and held on to defeat Sergio Garcia by two strokes. Rory’s victory at the WGC-Bridgestone is his first in a WGC event, and moves him to No. 1 in the World Golf Rankings.

Adam Scott has been the World No. 1 for a little over two months, and he has played excellent golf to hold on to the top spot. In his first event as No. 1, Scott defeated Jason Dufner in a playoff to win the Crowne Plaza Invitational. In addition, he finished in the top-10 at the U.S. Open (T9) and The Open Championship (T5).

The WGC-Bridgestone Invitational will be Tiger Woods’ third event since returning to competition from back surgery. He has not played well in the previous two events, but he said the venue this week will give him confidence. Tiger owns Firestone Country Club with eight wins dating back to 1999, and said, “This golf course is just amazing. It’s very forward. It’s right in front of you.”

Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, and Jordan Spieth have been added to the field for the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational beginning July 31st at Firestone Country Club. Spieth is in fifth place in the FedEx Cup Standings, but Woods and Mickelson are both looking for quality starts in order to make it to the Tour Championship.
