Wetterich wishing he could go back and replay the 18th at Lakes


Curiously, Brett Wetterich, who opened with a 67 at Brookside, hit driver on the 18th hole at the Lakes, the easier of the two venues, after playing conservatively all day and hitting mostly two-irons and 3-woods off the tee. His drive landed in a fairway bunker and he closed with a bogey to shoot 70.

The Patience of Jobe

Less than twelve hours removed from his phenomenal final-round 65 on Sunday to tie for second at the Memorial, Brandt Jobe picked up right where he left off, firing a sizzling, bogey-free 10-under 62 at the Lakes Golf & Country Club during his first 18 at the 36-hole sectional qualifier for the US Open.

Not only did Jobe punch his ticket to Congressional, but he shared co-medalist honors at 12-under with Chez Reavie in the 120-man field in Columbus, Ohio (which easily could have been mistaken for a regular PGA Tour event).

“It was a survival,” said Jobe, referring to his second 18 at Brookside Golf & Country Club.

Sergio's boo boo feels better!

Battling the intense pain of an infected fingernail — his left ring finger — Sergio Garcia managed to grind out a four-under 66 on Thursday at the HP Byron Nelson Championship, putting himself near the top of the leaderboard and two shots behind first-round leader Jeff Overton. On Monday Garcia, who has played in every British Open since 1998, but has yet to qualify for Royal St. Georges in July, withdrew from the Open Qualifier after four holes because he couldn’t grip the club comfortably and the pain was so excruciating that he questioned whether he’d be able to tee it up later in the week at TPC Four Seasons.
