At this week’s Champions Tour event in Missouri, PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem introduced the captains for the 2015 Presidents Cup, which will take place in New Songdo City, South Korea. Jay Haas was named captain of Team USA and Nick Price was named captain of the International Team. Former captains Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player joined the press conference as did International vice-captain K.J. Choi.
Sometimes it’s tough to be a golfing phenom!
South Korean Si Woo Kim shot 18-under total over six rounds at PGA West–Nicklaus Tournament and TPC Stadium–to place T17th and became the youngest player at 17 years, 5 months and 6 days on Monday to graduate from PGA Tour Q-School. Previously, Ty Tryon held that record set in 2001, and unfortunately, as we know, he never lived up to the hype.
Because of the age requirement (18-years-old) to become a PGA Tour member and the condensed 2013 schedule, along with other provisions, Kim’s situation is somewhat complicated.
Eye on the prize
After the Presidents Cup opening ceremony on Wednesday, PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem held a press conference with the three South Koreans on the Internationals team: K.J. Choi, K.T. Kim and Y.E. Yang sitting beside him. Finchem announced that South Korea will host the Presidents Cup in 2015 at an undetermined venue, marking the first time the event has been held in Asia and highlighting the golf boom in the region.
Westwood wins again
Well, this might shut up many of the naysayers! — world No. 1 Lee Westwood fired a final-round five-under 67 to come from behind and capture his second consecutive victory at the Ballantine’s Championship in Seoul, South Korea. After Westwood regained the top ranking when he won the Indonesian Masters last Sunday, he encountered some skepticism for the strength of the field at the Asian Tour event and his lack of majors.
