We are all Europeans now.

The grumbling of Ryder Cup darlings Luke Donald and Rory McIlroy appears to have paid off: the European Tour is preparing a change to its membership criteria that would allow appearances at team events like the Ryder Cup, Seve Trophy and President’s Cup (shrewd, that one) to count towards its established 13-tournament minimum.

The plan has even piqued the interest of Tiger Woods.

The Vivendi Seve Trophy was contested this past weekend with Great Britain & Ireland winning despite a strong rally from the Continental Europeans. Rory McIlroy, the U.S. Open champ from Northern Ireland, didn’t play, but revealed on Twitter he was watching in the above screenshot of his tweet: “Is it wrong that I’m enjoying this European comeback in the Seve trophy??”

Which prompted Englishman, Ryder Cup teammate and member of the victorious GB&I team Lee Westwood to reply: “Yes it was.”
