Trump trumping in Scotland

In the wake of the Scottish Open losing Barclays as its title sponsor after a ten-year relationship, European Tour commissioner George O’Grady has ruled out American tycoon Donald Trump as the replacement to host the event. Well, at least for now. O’Grady says it’s not a possibility because The Donald’s new course, Trump International Golf Links in Aberdeen, Scotland, won’t be ready until 2014, according to Reuters.

World no. 1 Luke Donald is among those warming up for the Open at Castle Stuart this week

Thanks to Conor, who is apparently “on holiday,” for passing along the link to an interesting take on Castle Stuart’s setup for this week’s Scottish Open.

The switch this year from Loch Lomond to a links-style course was intended to make the event a more attractive prospect for big names looking for a pre-Open warm-up. Naturally, some are anxious for the reaction of world’s best golfers, but those who probably should be most concerned are the most at ease, including co-designer Mark Parsinen, according to Martin Dempster’s report in The Scotsman.

While Tiger trekked back to Florida to practice and hang with his cubs, Phil Mickelson is playing in this week’s Scottish Open with yet another opportunity to oust Tiger from his throne as number one in the world rankings. He just needs to win or finish second. (Good luck!)

As he faced the media on Wednesday, he spent the entire press conference wiping blood from his right eyebrow. The first question he fielded was, “Have you walked into a door or something?”
