Danny Willett is reaping the benefits that come along with winning the Masters. On Monday it was announced that the 28-year-old Englishman has joined the PGA Tour. He has received a five-year exemption that runs through the 2020-21 season.

That’s not all! He also earns 600 FedExCup points from his win in Augusta.

Hey dude, you going to America? Yeah? Cool, me too, dude.

It seems like just a few years ago the European Tour was gaining momentum in its claim for star power that rivaled the U.S. PGA Tour. Wait, it was!

With the economic downturn in Europe and loss of sponsors, many of its finest players have decided to jump ship and base themselves in America (while still maintaining their European Tour membership but keeping the number of starts at the bare minimum). With the PGA Tour boasting 28 of the top 30 players in world rankings in the upcoming 2013 season, the U.S. defection movement is now complete, wouldn’t you say?

Westy eyes playing more in the States

Given Englishman Lee Westwood’s past comments regarding The Players Championship and his loyalty to the European Tour, I was understandably a little surprised when I received the press release this morning announcing that Westwood plans to split his time between Europe and America after deciding to rejoin the PGA Tour in 2012.

Poulter may face the tough decision of picking just one tour

Ian Poulter may have to drop his PGA Tour card because the European Tour increased the number of mandatory events to 13 if players want to retain membership. The Englishman, who joined the US Tour in 2004 as a “special temporary member,” says that it may be difficult to play 13 in Europe along with 15 in America.

Rory McIlroy trekking back to Europe

Rory McIlroy’s decision to drop his PGA Tour card might have repercussions to his 2011 playing privileges in the US, per reports by cbssports.com’s Steve Elling. When McIlroy broke the news to reporters, he noted that he’d be happy playing in 11 or 12 events (rather than the required 15 for Tour members; McIlroy played in 16 this season).
