Holy crap. I knew I should have quit while I was already behind. Somehow I managed to delete and/or lose the few thousand words I spent crafting as an ode to Fred Couples over the past two-three hours. It really was one of *those* days — I started calling it “Freaky Friday” before noon. Ugh. This hurts so much more than usual because it was about Freddie, my childhood hero and fellow Seattle native. I mean, the first-ever post I published on this site, which started as a Tumblr blog and “hobby” in 2009, was about Couples and how he inspired me to take up golf.

This one hurts. I’ll stop complaining, but if you’ve ever worked on something for hours and put a ton of heart and energy into a project that you felt strongly about and probably dedicated more time than needed — and in my case, too many words, as well — because you just felt like it, then you know that pit in your stomach when you idiotically press the wrong combo of buttons and the screen suddenly becomes blank.

As I wholeheartedly warned everyone, I’m winging everything with regard to my Masters coverage this week and trying to be “adventurous,” but I guess I haven’t really done anything crazy yet and I’m not sure how that necessarily deviates from my playbook at past majors in recent history. So far, I’m using the same platforms I have in the past, but I’m just not physically in Augusta, so I’m not sharing a house with my colleagues/media buddies, whom I can force to participate in some shape or form with the live streams.

However, I was definitely hit with a strong dose and much-needed self-awareness check when I reflected on my post-round live stream via Periscope. Two things stand out: 1) Wow, I am really good at talking about nothing for lengthy periods; 2) My ADHD is escalated as I’m obviously easily distracted by the comments and change topics mid-thought when I see a question or comment that piques my interest.

Get excited for the Irish Open to kick off Thursday morning at Royal County Down Golf Club, a brilliant test of golf with a spectacular layout and scenery — no wonder it’s one of the world’s greatest courses. Not enough is said about the venue, which has that “it” factor and special atmosphere that only the best major championship sites possess. In other words, RCD, which is located about an hour from Belfast in Northern Ireland,  feels like it could host an Open Championship and this event feels notably distinct.

For those of you without iPhones — and thus, can’t download the app — here’s the video of the quick chat I did on Periscope with Graeme McDowell after he shot a one-under 71 in the second round of the BMW PGA Championship. He’s one-over for the tournament, which currently puts him just outside the cutline at the moment.

Regardless, talking to G-Mac is always fun.

By Stephanie Wei under European PGA Tour

In case you missed the live interviews on Periscope — since it was dark-o-clock in the U.S. — I spoke with Nicolas Colsaerts, Luke Donald, Matteo Manassero and Mikko Ilonen this morning at Wentworth, the site of the European Tour’s flagship event, the BMW PGA Championship. (Don’t worry, I asked if I could use the live-streaming app in advance and received permission from the European Tour, which has different media regulations, and I’m pretty much allowed to Periscope until the cows come home from Monday-Wednesday.)

First, let’s check out my chat with the legendary Nicolas Colsaerts:

By Stephanie Wei under European PGA Tour

Hello! Sorry it’s been a few days since I’ve posted, but I’ve had a pretty hectic couple of weeks and needed to catch up on sleep.

As you know, my credentials were revoked for the remainder of the PGA Tour season, so I’m doing my best to turn lemons into lemonade. (Don’t worry, I can still cover the majors!) Thus, I decided to head across the pond and cover the BMW PGA Championship, the European Tour’s flagship event, where world no. 1 Rory McIlroy is defending champion. I leave tonight.

I joined the ever-awesome Katie Nolan on her show on Fox Sports 1 this past weekend to chat about Periscope (and the whole credential fiasco) and the new media landscape. We also discussed about the betting odds for Tiger Woods’ next girlfriend, but for some reason, it’s not posted on YouTube — which is too bad because it was pretty funny.

Guys, I know you’re probably sick of this story, but it seems never-ending because of the controversy over Periscope and users streaming the big Mayweather-Pacquiao fight.

Everyone is curious as to how the entertainment industry — including sports leagues — will deal with the advent of live-streaming apps from smart phones. (I guess timing is everything?)

As I tweeted on Thursday, my national media credentials were revoked by the PGA Tour because I used Periscope, a new live-streaming app, to broadcast content during Monday’s practice round at the WGC-Cadillac Match Play Championship. Here’s the background story behind the incident and the proceeding fallout.
