I’ve been meaning to use this Tony Romo zinger for over a month, or heck, I likely used a version of this in jest back in 2010 or 2012, but it was better that I waited so long after the fact because it works better in this context. Last month, it was announced that Romo, 14-year veteran quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys, was officially retiring and joining CBS as the lead game analyst, where he’ll have the pleasure of sharing the booth with lead announcer Jim Nantz.

As I was leaving the media center late last Saturday, I ran into SI‘s Alan Shipnuck, who had also been burning the midnight oil. “I’m going to the cemetery to see Tom Morris’ grave with Brian Gay and his wife [Kimberly],” said Alan. “Do you want to come?”

Um, sure, why not! I hadn’t been yet and there didn’t seem like a more appropriate time to visit a graveyard than this ungodly hour.

Congrats to Justin Rose for hanging on to his lead this week to win the AT&T National by a shot over Ryan Moore. Honestly, until Moore made his run, I was pulling for Justin. He’s such a class act and good guy — how can you not cheer for him? (Yes, I know the media is supposed to be unbiased, but at least I don’t start cheering in the media room when Phil makes a birdie.)

After going 0-for-a-lot in his PGA Tour career, Rose has won two events in his last three starts. Hooray! And more shockingly, Jim Nantz didn’t make us all throw-up with another syrupy tribute. What a great show of restraint. Hats off to both Rose and Nantz.

Time to watch fireworks. More tomorrow. Bye.

While there are still holes to be played and potential mistakes to be made, it appears Justin Rose might break the 54-hole curse that has plagued the leaders at recent events. Rose made two bogeys to open up the back nine, but with five holes to play, he holds a two-stroke lead over Charlie Wi and Ryan Moore (Go Ryan!).

Should Rose hang on for his second win in three starts, it’ll be hard to conjure up a more heartwarming reading courtesy of Jim Nantz than last time. (By the way, the video I posted was taken down by YouTube because of a copyright complaint, but it appears Deadspin isn’t violating them?)

There are a couple of routes Nantz can take with his Rose tribute, though.
