Well, that was interesting. We were having a great #WUPHangout until we got trolled, which was an experience — yep, popped by troll cherry — and kind of funny. Except I was clearly super confused. We’ve figured out what happened, and as always, there was a silver lining!

I joined John Maginnes on SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio on Monday evening to chat about all things golf. I’m told it was basically like two friends having a conversation about the past week’s news pegs or other random ramblings. In case you missed it, the show’s producer offered to send me the audio file to post here. Cross-platforming!

Pressel pouting

I’ve watched the replay of Golf Channel’s tape-delayed coverage of the semifinals match between Morgan Pressel and Azahara Munoz, with a particular interest on the 12th hole, where Pressel went over the allotted time — she had 2:09 to play her three shots — by 39 seconds. I’ve also read just about every article of coverage by the scribes on-site.

During the third round of the Nationwide Tour Championship, the Golf Channel’s Jerry Foltz tweeted this gem:

I’ve confirmed with Jerry and this really did happen. James Hahn and his caddie Dong Yi, who are good friends, played a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors to determine the shot selection. Hahn wanted to lay up, but Yi urged him to go for the green. Who won?

The Golf Channel did something many of you have wished for in Saturday’s “Announcer-Lite” coverage of the Nationwide Tour event — the mics were taken away from the commentators and the coverage relied solely on graphics and conversations between the players and caddies. Featured player Hunter Haas strapped on a wireless mic and entertained the audience with self-deprecating comments.

Unfortunately, I missed the coverage and I feel like a terrible friend for missing the groundbreaking experiment that good friend Jerry Foltz was excited to take part in — or not, considering he’s an announcer that was given the gag order, but he interacted with viewers via Twitter. (Sorry, Jerry, I had one of my narcoleptic spells! But even though I might be biased, you’re the best tweeter from the Golf Channel because you don’t sound like a salesman.) Overall, the reviews were positive and Jerry said it seemed like 60% loved it and 40% hated it.

Jason Kidd is an excellent human being, an incredible athlete and an even better golfer.

Golf Channel’s Mr. Nationwide Jerry Foltz tweeted this blast on Wednesday night. Basically, there will be extra mics to pick up what the players and caddies are saying to fill in for the announcers and commentators. Jerry said via text, “God knows that the players and caddies will be far more interesting to listen to than I am.”

Never! — at least in my ears.

PGA Tour rookie Chris Wilson and his caddie Adam Ellison take a moment to show off their synchronized chipping act in the practice area at TPC River Highlands on Saturday.

Unfortunately, Chris missed the cut, but he was getting in some practice before heading down to New Jersey to see his swing coach. I had a good time hanging out with them Friday night when we had our brush with greatness. Just to preface this, try not to get too jealous.
