Just the obligatory nagging friendly reminder to SUBSCRIBE to the WUP pod — available just about anywhere you choose to digest your podcasts: iTunes, Google Play Music, Soundcloud, WUP Podcast Page, Libsyn Classic Feed, etc. Of course, you can always listen via the player below, as well. But I’m a big fan of subscribing to pods because they just pop up in your feed as soon as they’re released.

Questions? As always, please feel free to contact me about anything and I’m always open to suggestions and constructive criticism (that’s the only way we evolve!): stephanie@weiunderpar.com. I may not answer immediately, but I try my best– as you might be able to imagine, I can’t keep up with the hundreds of emails I receive every day, and actually, I wish I could hire an intern just to help me with writing and replying to damn EMAILS. In the meantime, I promise to address your emails on the pod at the next earliest convenience. Deal? Cool. Thanks for your continued support!

I caught up a few weeks ago with Golf Digest social media coordinator, pro golfer and part-time comedian Hally Leadbetter. We talked about her recent move to NYC, her journey from junior golfer to pro golf to media, good/bad “golf parents”, managing (aka, lowering) expectations when she plays now, signing up for a stand-up comedy class, and her recent buddies trip in Scotland.

In short: Get-to-know Hally — she’s awesome, and a woman of many talents!

Lindsey has her man’s back!

Tiger Woods nearly broke the internet Tuesday afternoon when he posted a column on Derek Jeter’s new website, the Players’ Tribune, which blasted a column in the December issue of Golf Digest for a satirical fake interview with Woods that was penned by distinguished writer Dan Jenkins. Lindsey Vonn, who is training in Vail, Colorado, for her World Cup skiing comeback, is glad her boyfriend took a strong stance, according to a USA Today report.

In the December issue of Golf Digest, legendary sportswriter Dan Jenkins pens a satirical piece of him interviewing Tiger Woods. Having read the FAKE Q&A only bits of it (excuse: my mailbox key is broken, so I can’t access my issue and it’s not online in full yet — but I’m told it will be shortly), it’s fairly funny, but if anything, it’s harmless. No surprise, Tiger and his people didn’t think so, though.

So, how did Team Tiger respond? Oh, you know, probably the way Jenkins would have written it — Tiger (or his PR flak) penned a first-person column on Derek Jeter’s new website, The Players’ Tribune, blasting Digest, Jenkins and the satirical piece. You could call it a slight overreaction (they even wrote a letter to the magazine).

Defending champ

With the prestige of winning the season’s toughest major championship comes added monetary incentive for the best players in the women’s game. The USGA has decided to give the U.S. Women’s Open purse a $750,000 bump in prize money to $4 million, according to Ron Sirak of Golf Digest.

Following hot on the heels of the news that Tiger and Gillette were to part ways and that the former world number one’s income declined by $22m last year (calm down– he’s still comfortably the highest paid sportsman in the world) comes arguably the more surprising announcement that Woods and Golf Digest are to end their fairly lengthy relationship.
