Oh, Monty!

Oh, Monty!

On Friday at the BMW PGA Championship, America’s favorite Scot, Colin Montgomerie, chimed in on the Tiger Woods-Sergio Garcia spat, particularly in reference to Sergio’s “fried chicken” remark and European Tour CEO George O’Grady’s “colored athletes” comment while he was trying to defend Garcia.

Naturally, Monty came to the defense of Sergio and O’Grady, saying the whole thing had been blown out of proportion and suggested players would now be scared to talk to the press because you have to be just *so* PC.

Oh.

Oh, boy, you’re up, Finchem.

OH MY GOD. SHUT THE FRONT DOOR.

I wish this was an SNL skit or Onion parody, but unfortunately this actually happened: European Tour Commissioner George O’Grady was trying to defend the now notorious remark Sergio Garcia made on Tuesday at an awards dinner — that he’d serve Tiger Woods “fried chicken — when he uttered his own racially insensitive phrase.

Hey dude, you going to America? Yeah? Cool, me too, dude.

It was a joke, guys!

Following the third round of the HSBC Champions, a day after the caddie awards dinner where Steve Williams made the controversial comment directed at former boss Tiger Woods in his acceptance speech, Adam Scott said he disagreed with those who thought he should sack Williams and suggested the remark was taken out of context.

Trump trumping in Scotland

In the wake of the Scottish Open losing Barclays as its title sponsor after a ten-year relationship, European Tour commissioner George O’Grady has ruled out American tycoon Donald Trump as the replacement to host the event. Well, at least for now. O’Grady says it’s not a possibility because The Donald’s new course, Trump International Golf Links in Aberdeen, Scotland, won’t be ready until 2014, according to Reuters.

Well, that was worthwhile...

When (nearly) all eyes at the Cadillac Championship were directed coursewards, PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem and European Tour Chief Executive George O’Grady seized the opportunity to stage a joint Q&A session and discuss their paradigm-shifting synergy going forward, or somesuch. A press conference for the ages this most certainly was not.
