Last time Tiger drove a Cadillac courtesy car, he crashed it

As expected, the PGA Tour announced on Monday that General Motor’s Cadillac will become the title sponsor of the former WGC-CA Championship at Doral. Cadillac will also serve as the umbrella sponsor of the World Golf Championships, meaning the brand will have a presence at all four WGC events.

Ernie Els celebrates winning the '10 WGC-CA Championship

The PGA Tour has scheduled a “special announcement regarding the World Golf Championships’ event at TPC Blue Monster” for Monday afternoon. The fancy media conference (light refreshments will be served!) will feature Commissioner Tim Finchem addressing the press at Doral.

Last month a Sports Business Journal article reported that General Motors and the Tour were near a deal to sign Cadillac as the new sponsor of the WGC-Doral tournament and possibly other events. With the recent news of GM’s successful IPO, many are assuming the Tour is confirming that the agreement has been finalized.

Tiger Woods' Cadillac Escalade post-Thanksgiving night and fire hydrant accident

There’s a good Tiger Woods joke somewhere in this story. According to Sports Business Journal, General Motors is reportedly in the final stages of negotiations with the PGA Tour to sponsor the World Golf Championship event at Doral and possibly other tournaments.
