Rory McIlroy confirmed he had parted ways with his caddie of nine years JP Fitzgerald at his pre-tourney presser on Wednesday at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. The reason provided by the world no. 4 was basically the golfer-caddie version of the breakup line, “It’s not you, it’s me.” But…it actually is you, too. Hey, a relationship always involves at least two people. However, it was Rory’s most honest, diplomatic explanation.

With Time Warner feuding with CBS over contract negotiations, the cable company blacked out the network over the weekend in three major cities, including New York, Los Angeles and Dallas. That meant TV coverage of the last two rounds of the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational were unavailable to millions of potential viewers.

No big deal, though — thanks to Tiger Woods taking a massive lead at the halfway mark and blowing away the closest competitors by seven shots (and you could’ve watched the snooze-fest online).

Tiger practices at Oak Hill

Before jetting to Akron for the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, Tiger Woods, who was accompanied by his caddie Joe LaCava and girlfriend Lindsey Vonn, played a practice round at Oak Hill Country Club on Tuesday to prepare for next week’s PGA Championship. And he made it clear he thought the greens weren’t up to par, so to speak, according to ESPN.com

I needed a few R&R days before returning to the grind with two big tourneys back-to-back — the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational (which will now be referred to as “Firestone”) and the final major of the year, the PGA Championship.

I doubt anyone noticed with the Olympics kicking off last weekend. I’m pretty sure at least half of you guys have been busy being outraged with NBC’s tape-delayed coverage that has forced you to ponder the unthinkable: STAYING OFF THE INTER-WEBS!

Stevie guiding Scotty around AAC

Look, I’m tired of the drama, too, but I’d also like to share some thought and insight before we move on. Plus, I disagree with Conor, who thinks I’m a sucker, on this matter, but from my vantage point, Steve Williams has changed.

Tiger smiling for the cameras!

Tiger Woods arguably took the high road when asked about his former caddie Steve Williams’ controversial comments on Sunday following Adam Scott’s win at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. Thing is, Tiger never says anything, so I’m not sure he should be praised.

Stevie broke his tradition!

When Steve Williams walked through the 18th green on Sunday at Firestone and put the bag down, we watched to see if he would remove his caddie bib — which was customary for him when Tiger Woods was his boss (regardless of etiquette and the Tour’s request that caddies must leave them on until the scoring area).
