If you think the pressure at the TOUR Championship does not make the players nervous, then you haven’t listened to Chris Kirk.

Jim Furyk had one heck of a season. He notched four second place finishes, and added four top-15s at the majors. On Sunday, the 44-year-old had a chance to win his first tournament since the 2010 Tour Championship, but a poor approach on 17 killed his chances.
Professional golfers are still getting used to “playoff speak.” In team sports, there are no excuses during the playoffs, and golfers have not fully grasped this concept.
Rory McIlroy did not get the job done at TPC Boston, but he held on to the second spot in the FedExCup standings with a T5 finish. McIlroy said mental fatigue played a part in his final round 70, and he is looking to take tomorrow off in preparation for the third leg of the FedExCup playoffs.
Geoff Ogilvy narrowly slipped into the field at the Deutsche Bank Championship, but he took advantage of the opportunity with a T2 finish alongside Russell Henley and Bill Horschel, the latter of which also kept his playoff hopes alive by moving inside the cutoff for the BMW Championship.
Geoff Ogilvy is ranked 100th in the FedExCup Playoffs, which means he is the last man to get into the field at the Deutsche Bank Championship. In order to move on, he will need a high finish, and that’s the way Ogilvy thinks the playoffs should be.
Cameron Tringale is a man at peace, and it showed at the first event of the FedExCup Playoffs. Tringale turned 27-years-old on Sunday, and got into the mix with a three-under 32 on the front nine at Ridgewood CC. He then briefly tied for the lead with three straight birdies on 15, 16, and 17 before bogeying the last to fall into a tie for second place with Jason Day and Stuart Appleby at 12-under total.
Stuart Appleby caught fire with five birdies on the back nine at Ridgewood CC to catapult into a tie for second place in the first playoff event. Appleby’s T2 at the Barclays is projected to move him to 19th in the FedExCup standings.
Given Englishman Lee Westwood’s past comments regarding The Players Championship and his loyalty to the European Tour, I was understandably a little surprised when I received the press release this morning announcing that Westwood plans to split his time between Europe and America after deciding to rejoin the PGA Tour in 2012.
Here’s part of the hilarious statement:
