We’ve been in the twilight zone for quite some time now — at the very least 11 days now, but I’d argue far longer. I know we’ve truly entered golf’s WTF era when I heard the news (first reported by ESPN.com’s Bob Harig) that Tiger Woods took a COMMERCIAL FLIGHT — not a PRIVATE JET — from LAX to Dubai! (However, he did take take a private plane from San Diego to LA.) It was the first time in probably 10 years, he told ESPN.

I didn’t want to say it before the first round finished. I didn’t want to get attacked and called a “Tiger hater,” even though that’s never a good reason not to write and/or publish anything — more accurate would be “feel like.” I wanted to give him a chance. Now, only ONE official round has been posted for Tiger Woods in 2017, so…wait for it, GIVE HIM A CHANCE. It’s early! It’s only been one round! Let the guy get his feet under him and some reps before we’re too quick to write him off.

For the love of God. I’m in my seventh year at this, and trust me, I’ve been there and I know how it feels to hope and want something (or someone) to go back to what it once was SO badly because that nostalgia and that AWESOMENESS that went along with it was SO FREAKING GREAT.

After 18 hours of travel across the planet, I was pretty much giddy when the plane landed in Abu Dhabi. I had finally made it to the Middle East, a region of the world I had yet to visit, and as someone who enjoys exploring new places and cultures, I was beyond excited. Then, I turned on my phone and first thing I saw was an email announcing Rory McIlroy had withdrawn from this week’s tournament due to a rib injury — a stress fracture, to be exact. Which, to my understanding, is extremely frustrating because the only prescription at this point is straight-up rest for an average of 4-6 weeks.

Talk about a buzz kill. My reaction is summed up pretty well in the photo above. But hey, I wasn’t going to let that minor detail — like the main draw of the tournament, which boasts the best field on the European Tour all year, pulling out! After all, I’m in Abu Dhabi!

rory-billy

The European Tour strikes again with another can’t-miss, must-watch original video! — their video production team seriously deserves a raise, but they’ve been putting out super creative, hilarious and quality content for years now.

As a special treat on Friday, Billy, a nine-year-old who basically talks a ton of sh*t to some of the biggest names in the game and is absurdly funny, returned to grill Rory McIlroy in his latest interview. And Little Billy asks McIlroy (and other players) questions that would normally get any reporter’s press credentials revoked or possibly something involving fists and a trip to the hospital. But, thankfully, Billy is adorable and 9 years old, not to mention rather charming, so he can say whatever he wants. (Damn him! Relax, relax, only joking.)

Kudos to the European Tour’s social media guru Jamie Kennedy, who is by far the best in the golf business, for getting Miguel Angel Jimenez to strap on a GoPro harness, so that we can get a glimpse of his warm-up stretching routine from a perspective that we never have before. The subtitles that were added came in handy, too.

That's a big.. err... never mind.

That’s a big.. err…stick?

For the second year in a row, Henrik Stenson finished the European Tour’s Race to Dubai in style. The Swede posted a final round 70 to defend his title in the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai, by two shots, holding off a trio of Ryder Cup teammates.

Wozzilroy in full force: Caroline commandeers the mic

Leave it to Wozzilroy to spice up the news (a massive thank you, by the way!) during golf’s version of the “off-season.”

After Rory McIlroy opened with a 66 at the DP World Tour Championship — which he followed on Friday with a 67 to share the 36-hole lead with Luke Donald — he took the podium for what he thought would be the usual post-round press conference with the usual mundane questions.

Well, if you’ve ever thought some of our inquiries were awkward or annoying, then clearly you’ve never witnessed a significant other commandeering the microphone to interrogate a player about your Christmas present in front of the world media, no less.

The happy couple: G-Mac and fiancee Kristin Stape

Graeme McDowell proposed to longtime girlfriend Kristin Stape from the 656-foot high helipad of the Burg Al Arab Hotel in Dubai two weeks ago.

…and she said yes.

The couple met when the 2010 U.S. Open champ hired Stape’s Orlando-based interior design firm to decorate his Lake Nona home.
