David Feherty, one of the most popular figures in golf broadcasting, will not return to CBS as a golf commentator next season. That’s right — unfortunately, Feherty, who has been with the network for 19 years, called his last tournament (at least on CBS) last week at The Barclays.

CBS Sports decided not to renew Feherty’s contract after talks broke down, according to Sports Business Journal’s John Ourand.

Arrrrh! Feherty in traditional Irish dress.

To be fair, this became a fait accompli the second he embraced the goatee, but news is news, I guess:

On the tee with Tiger

When my friend Jeff called and asked if I was available on Tuesday morning to take part in David Feherty’s IED of Golf, which is put on by Feherty’s foundation, Troops First, in conjunction with Jeff’s, No Greater Sacrifice, I said yes without hesitation. Jeff added there was one catch — you have to stay radio silent about the event until afterward and you can’t disclose the location.

Now I almost regret missing the Tavistock Cup! (It was on the TVs in the media room, but the sound was muted.) While Graeme McDowell prepared to tee off, a rather loud, somewhat unholy sound blasted in the air. Apparently Tiger wasn’t the culprit (it was Darren Clarke), but as you may remember, he and David Feherty have an affinity for fart jokes and rancorous noises via iPhones.

Thanks to Geoff Shackelford via Jay Busbee for the spot.

Golf announcer/funnyman David Feherty popped by J. Erik Jonsson Community School in Dallas, Texas, on Wednesday to hang out with young impressionable minds and talk to them about life. Best of all, he got in a velcro suit and the kids got a chance to take shots at him with their golf clubs. Spoiler: Feherty goes down.
