Futcher: "Live and move on..."

I caught up with Katie Futcher last week in Orlando at the LPGA’s season-ending CME Group Titleholders for a Golf.com Q&A. Katie, the LPGA’s only Penn Stater, is a huge football fan (she was actually at Joe Paterno’s last home game with a group of friends) who holds a ton of school pride (her website says her favorite colors are PSU’s navy blue and white).

Naturally, she was crushed when news broke of the scandal surrounding the university and football team, and understandably, she was initially reluctant to chat about the whole awful thing — since it’d been quite emotional and she’d rehashed it a gazillion times already — but once she she did, she was very candid, insightful and interesting.

Yani bets, she shoots, she scores!

If I were a betting woman, I’d put my money on Yani Tseng every time — especially if she’s betting on herself. The 22-year-old from Taiwan took full advantage of moving day in the third round and shot a bogey-free, six-under 66 at Grand Cypress, matching the low round of the tournament.

The World No. 1 got off to a slow start in the first two rounds of the LPGA’s season-ending CME Group Titleholders, carding a four-over 76 on Friday (albeit in very, very tough conditions) for a combined two-over at the midway point.

Before teeing off on Saturday morning — in an effort to give herself some motivation — Yani made a $100 wager with her caddie, Jason Hamilton, that she would shoot better than three-under.

Super-humble superstar

World No. 1 Yani Tseng is one cool lady. If only American fans would stop for a moment and try in the slightest to look beyond the flag, they’d realize it in a heartbeat. Despite the Taiwanese 22-year-old’s rise as the most dominant golfer on the planet, breaking multiple records on her way to winning eleven tournaments across the globe, including two majors this season, Yani is the same humble, friendly, charismatic girl with a great sense of humor that she’s always been.
