A week ago after putting out on the 72nd hole, Justin Rose pointed upward to honor his father who passed away twelve years ago. This Sunday, Ken Duke made a similar gesture…to thank the tree on the 10th hole at TPC River Highlands for giving his ball a fortuitous kick onto the green.

Naturally, Duke’s nod to that tree makes the top of this week’s list.

Els survives to play another week

Ernie Els has won three major championships, captured 64 professional victories, including 18 on the PGA Tour, and has been inducted in the World Golf Hall of Fame, but over the last three weeks he’s been fighting to stay alive in the playoffs. Els, who has obviously struggled this season, faced elimination at the last three events, but he’s managed to survive under pressure — which he describes as more intense than being in contention.

For those sitting on the edge of their seats on Sunday wondering who would play their way in (or out) of the FedEx Cup, you need not wait any longer! — Scott Piercy was the only player in the field to improve his position with a T8 finish to move 15 spots up in the standings at 125th on the dot. Meanwhile, Chris Stroud, who started the week at 124th, was bumped out because of Piercy’s solid showing. Jeff Quinney also had an opportunity to make it, but came up short and only boosted his position by one spot and just missed at 126th.
