Disney should be a doozy!

After firing a three-under 67 to put him in a tie for second at the midway mark of The McGladrey Classic, Webb Simpson confirmed he’ll play next week’s season-ending event, the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Classic.  Simpson’s announcement followed shortly after world No. 1 Luke Donal committed to the Disney to take on Webb for the PGA Tour Money Title. Oh yeah, it’s on! — both guys are ready to throw down.

Roland Thatcher: He choked, but he kept his job

Roland Thatcher began the final round of the Children’s Miracle Network Classic with a four-shot advantage. He lost to Robert Garrigus by three shots. On Thatcher’s way to an even-par 72, he threw tantrums at bunkers and more tantrums. With seven holes to play, the pressure caught up to him and he bogeyed three of those. Thatcher even sank a clutch five-footer on 18 to save his tour card. He needed a win or solo-second to finish in the top 125 on the money list. So his thrown-away loss was still in many ways a victory.

Just ask Roland, who comes away with the quote of the week in his post-round comments to the Golf Channel.

This was Appleby’s first win in his native soil since 2001, his 12th victory worldwide and his second of the season.

Johnson Wagner: Triumph or Failure?

Johnson Wagner played his heart out at the Children’s Miracle Network Classic to improve his standing on the money list, but in the end, he was the odd man out at No. 126. Starting the week at No. 153, Wagner made up a lot of ground. Usually in golf, you’re in control of your own destiny, but when it comes to things like the money list and FedEx Cup points, some of a player’s fate is in the hands of another. In Wagner’s case, it was in Roland Thatcher’s.

Troy Merritt: Picture perfect!

In the immortal words of Walt Disney, “All your dreams can come true if you have the courage to pursue them.” Indeed, just ask Troy Merritt, who lived a few of his on Sunday evening at the Children’s Miracle Network Classic. At the beginning of the day, Merritt’s job and a million dollars were both on the line. With most the day filled with uncertainty, Merritt finished on the number at No. 125 on the money list to keep fully-exempt status on the PGA Tour for 2011, and then he won a three-way playoff with Rickie Fowler and Aaron Baddeley to take the Kodak Challenge prize.
