Cameron Tringale is a man at peace, and it showed at the first event of the FedExCup Playoffs. Tringale turned 27-years-old on Sunday, and got into the mix with a three-under 32 on the front nine at Ridgewood CC. He then briefly tied for the lead with three straight birdies on 15, 16, and 17 before bogeying the last to fall into a tie for second place with Jason Day and Stuart Appleby at 12-under total.

5 players waiting to playoff for 3 remaining spots

With darkness quickly settling in, the vigor had gone straight out of Erik Compton by the time the USGA officials announced the five-for-three (five players–Ryan Blaum, Ken Duke, Compton, Michael Putnam and Cameron Tringale) for three remaining spots) playoff at the U.S. Open Sectional Qualifying in Columbus Monday evening.

“Really?” Compton said as he walked off the putting green at Brookside G&CC. “Right now? It’ll be dark by the time we get to the fairway.”

I know I should have posted this last weekend, but I dropped the ball and I was reminded of it this afternoon at Harbour Town, site of The Heritage.

At last week’s Texas Valero Open, Cameron Tringale, Rickie Fowler’s roommate, was in contention. Throughout the tournament, Rickie was cheering on Cam via Twitter. Golf Channel’s Kelly Tilghman asked Rickie what he’d get him if he won and Rickie replied, “I will buy him some balloons.” I got a good crack because I assumed he was referring to this interview during the Steve Marino Ping Pong Invitational, where Cam makes up a rambling story about how he and Rickie met.

Last Friday after the second round of the Honda Classic, Steve Marino hosted the first-ever Steve Marino Ping Pong Invitational, which was live-streamed on TourPlayers.com (if you missed it, you can go there to check out the full two hours and/or clips), at his home in Tequesta, Florida. Steve invited a group of his friends, including PGA Tour players Rickie Fowler, Dustin Johnson, Will Mackenzie, Spencer Levin and Cameron Tringale. The mayor of Tequesta even popped by to say hello and kick off the festivities!
