Welcome to this year’s edition of the WUP Holiday Gift Guide for Golfers. If you have a golfer on your gift list, then you’ve come to the right place for some ideas and/or inspiration. As someone who has lots of golf-crazed friends and family, these are the items that they’ll probably be unwrapping this holiday season. Once again, I’ve tried to mix it up from brands, price range and gender, as well as adding my own creative editorial vision.

Good luck shopping over the next couple of weeks. And don’t worry, you’re not alone — I’ve been experiencing major anxiety every time I approach a store and/or trying to figure out how to tackle getting everyone on my list the best present on the planet.

Happy Holidays!

Welcome to this year’s edition of the WUP Holiday Gift Guide. It’s not quite as fancy as last year’s — no special photoshoot — but I think there’s more diversity and a variety of options in different price ranges, so you can find a special gift for your golfer friends and family.

Happy Holidays!

Phil

You have the chance to feel the nerves of what putting a 3-footer for a million dollars is like. Well, kind of.

On Thursday, Callaway unveiled “The Big Bertha Payday,” a promotion which starts today in the US and Canada, and will run through June 15th. Golfers that demo a Big Bertha Alpha Driver, a Big Bertha Driver or a Big Bertha Fairway Wood at a participating location will receive a code they can use to enter for a chance to win the same dollar amount that Phil Mickelson wins at Pinehurst.

composite photoshoot

As some of you may have spotted on my Twitter, Instagram and/or Facebook — in other words, my social media — I spent Saturday shooting the inaugural Wei Under Par holiday guide *and* 2014 look book.

The above composite is just a sampling of the looks, some of which come complete with clubs and other golf-related products.

Many thanks to the talented photographer Mike Altobello (check out his website) and Kelly Quan, who was responsible for the hair and make-up.

Big shout-outs of appreciation to the companies and sponsors involved (in no particular order): adidas Golf, TaylorMade GolfNike GolfCallaway GolfAshworth, Cross, Fairway & Greene, Zero Restriction, Fila GolfSun Mountain, SchriffenScheyden Precision Eyewear, KENTWOOL, Club GloveTin Cup, Maui Jim, G/FORE, Seamus Golf, Jones Golf Bags, CHAMP Spikes and ScoreBand. Also, a special thank you to Buffalo Communications, Jack Studios and Oliver Horovitz (for his caddying skills).

Stay tuned for the 2013 WUP Holiday Guide debuting later this week! Oh, and the look book will launch along with my newly-designed website in January. Woot!

Timberlake at Torrey Pines in 2008. He plays off 6, apparently.

Callaway Golf has announced the appointment of snake-hipped pop star Justin Timberlake as the company’s new “Creative Director”.

The Grammy-winning star (are Emmys worth mentioning? No?) has made no secret of his enthusiasm for the game in recent years and, in addition to founding a PGA Tour event, has helped popularise the semi-ironic wearing of fedoras and flat caps.

Spotted on Monday at the Honda Classic: Cheerleaders!

I’m quoting the great Charlie Sheen, who quoted the great Allen Iverson during an interview with Jeff Rossen of NBC’s Today. Sheen, who has been the talk of the town for, well, being Charlie Sheen, the many loony (yet so absurd, it’s addicting) things he’s been saying lately and suing CBS, was asked if he’d ever missed a day of work. “Not a day that cost anybody any money,” said Sheen, rolling his eyes. “I missed practice. I’m talking about practice, to quote the great Allen Iverson. Practice! Come on, guys, we’re talking about practice.”

Range shot at Riviera

My left foot isn’t happy, but I get stir-crazy sitting in the media center when I should be outside scouring the practice areas and course. So, off I went sans crutches, no less (they’re such a pain when I’m trying to take notes and I look way cooler limping than hobbling, anyway — which, of course, is totally important). First of all, I definitely need a cover story in the place of the actual, lame one. I ran into Hunter Mahan before his press conference and Twitter chat, who suggested I go with something like, “I was diving off the stage at the Bird’s Nest to crowd surf and those drunks dropped me.”

Just swinging by the Travis Mathew Camper Van

Friday at the PGA Merchandise Show was much more productive than Thursday. I put on my game face and sketched out a tentative to-do list. Basically, I came to terms with the fact that I couldn’t see and/or do everything (this may be hard to believe, but I have the tendency to overextend myself). I figured the best way to show you guys what I saw is through pictures (I certainly apologize for the poor quality, but I went all amateur hour and used my phone, with the exception of several, like the one above, which is courtesy of Derek from 72strokes.com). Here we go!

Graeme McDowell wearing new sponsor logos for a photo shoot on 1st tee at Kapalua on Tuesday

You know what they say — where there’s smoke, there’s fire. For the past two months, rumor of Graeme McDowell leaving Callaway for Srixon fluttered through the golf industry. Now that it’s the new year, the news has been confirmed. McDowell has signed a multi-year deal estimated at $3 million with Srixon, the Belfast Telegraph reported:
