The top 25 players in the U.S. Ryder Cup standings are eligible for uniform fittings at this week’s Memorial Tournament. (Now, this year, that list reads a little strange compared to previous ones.) You could feel the buzz for the biennial matches against Europe starting to heat up — just through the conversations I eavesdropped on the driving range Tuesday afternoon.

Captain Old Dudes?
U.S. Ryder Cup team captain Tom Watson doesn’t mess around, nor does he necessarily make decisions based on the opinions of others. Heading into Tuesday’s press conference at Riviera, the site of this week’s Northern Trust Open, some surmised Watson would name Fred Couples, who has captained the past three winning Presidents Cup teams, as one of his vice captains.

Your U.S. Ryder Cup captains

At this week’s Greenbrier Classic, U.S. Ryder Cup captain Tom Watson announced he had named longtime friend and two-time U.S. Open champion Andy North as his first assistant for the 2014 biennial matches at Gleneagles.

Watson revealed he asked North a few months ago over dinner at his home in Kansas City, according to GolfChannel.com’s Jason Sobel:
