More good sponsorship news for the PGA Tour! Sony Corp. announced Tuesday that it will extend its sponsorship of the Sony Open in Honolulu, Hawaii, through 2014. This January’s event will be the first PGA Tour co-sponsored tournament televised live in 3-D. Which is awesome because 3-D TV is basically made for golf (seriously, coolest experience was getting to watch Round 1 of The Masters in 3-D — it’s like you’re there!).

Augusta chairman Billy Payne announced on Tuesday that an extra hour will be added to next year’s Masters telecast on ESPN for the first two rounds (3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. New York time on April 7 and 8). Meanwhile, UK residents will enjoy 3-D coverage (which is the coolest thing in the world, seriously) — if you actually have the technology (or access to it).

Unlike the other majors, The Masters restricts its TV coverage, like it does with everything else — just to remind us it is super-duper exclusive and special. It also makes us wish that the Green Jackets would extend the telecast to all day like the other majors.
