As cliche as it may be, timing is everything, isn’t it? Earlier in the week, in an anonymous survey conducted by Sports Illustrated, PGA Tour pros labeled Rickie Fowler (and Ian Poulter) as the most overrated players in golf, with both receiving 24% of the vote.

Fowler responded by winning the Tour’s flagship event, the Players Championship, in a playoff against Sergio Garcia and Kevin Kisner.

Tiger Woods emphatically pumped his first after holing a nine-footer for birdie on the par-5 9th, his final hole on Friday at TPC Sawgrass. The putt was only to post a one-under 71, but it put him just inside the cut line at even par, which is what’s projected to make weekend play at The Players Championship.

Guys, I know you’re probably sick of this story, but it seems never-ending because of the controversy over Periscope and users streaming the big Mayweather-Pacquiao fight.

Everyone is curious as to how the entertainment industry — including sports leagues — will deal with the advent of live-streaming apps from smart phones. (I guess timing is everything?)

It’s rare — almost even unheard of — that Tiger Woods would offer some emotional insight from his personal life, but that’s what he did on Tuesday at TPC Sawgrass, the site of this week’s Players Championship, the PGA Tour’s flagship event. A fatigued Woods admitted that the strain from his recent breakup with Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn, along with the anniversary of his father’s death (May 3), has resulted in sleepless nights.

Tiger Woods announced on Friday via Twitter that he will make his next start at The Players Championship, the PGA Tour’s flagship event, which is held May 7-10 at TPC Sawgrass.

Woods won the event two years ago and missed competing in it last year following his back surgery a few months prior. This time, he’s hoping for a repeat of 2013.
