Martin Kaymer

All the money in the world can’t buy you an electrical outlet

Martin Kaymer earned $1.8 million for winning the Players Championship on Sunday. The following day, I spotted him at the Jacksonville airport, sitting on the floor while he charged his phone and waited for his weather-delayed flight to the Dallas area for this week’s HP Byron Nelson Championship.

HUGS!

HUGS!

Just when it looked like Martin Kaymer was about to crumble, he came up big on the famed par-3 17th at TPC Sawgrass with one of the most clutch (yet improbable) par saves. (At least he didn’t hit it like a “wimp,” though.) The 29-year-old German struck a gap wedge up onto the island green and then it spun all the way back into the rough — just short of the water.

Rory rallies for yet another back door top 10

Rory rallies for yet another back door top 10

Rory McIlroy and the front nine at TPC Sawgrass don’t get along very well. In fact, McIlroy called it his “kryptonite” following his round on Saturday. But, in the final round, he recovered from an opening bogey to post a one-under on the first nine and then fired yet another stellar score — five-under 31 — on the back to shoot a six-under 66.

Rose opines

Rose opines on the bizarre rules gaffe

Justin Rose found himself in the center of attention over an unprecedented rules incident this weekend at The Players Championship. Rose had resigned to accepting his fate — a two-shot penalty under Rule 18-2b for his ball moving ever so slightly behind the 18th green at TPC Sawgrass during the third round. Then, he arrived to the course on Sunday for his 12:35pm tee time and learned about 30 minutes prior that PGA Tour officials had decided to rescind the penalty.

Justin’s score readjusted

Apparently Justin Rose’s ball didn’t move quite enough on Moving Day to get penalized. Upon further review overnight, the two-shot penalty Rose received Saturday evening following the third round at The Players Championship was rescinded by the PGA Tour.

Ryder Cup-like atmosphere set for Spieth and Kaymer

Ryder Cup-like atmosphere set for Spieth and Kaymer

Jordan Spieth pumped his fist — not once, or twice, but thrice — when his 12-footer from the fringe to save par disappeared into the cup on the 18th hole. So clutch.

That putt kept him bogey-free for the third straight round at TPC Sawgrass (and since his third round at the RBC Heritage, his last start), and with Martin Kaymer missing his nine-footer on a similar line, it gave Spieth a share of the 54-lead heading into the final round of The Players Championship.

Scott is officially off the market!

Scott is officially off the market!

A day after Adam Scott revealed he had married his longtime girlfriend, Swedish architect Marie Kojzar, the 2013 Masters champ shared some details of the wedding held in the backyard of his home in the Bahamas.

In this day and age, it’s quite incredible Scott was able to keep his wedding a secret for three weeks. However, it was so hush-hush that even some of his closest friends didn’t attend, like Justin Rose, who missed it because he received an invitation for a “garden party” — not a wedding.

Mac-attack

Rory McIlroy has only made the cut at TPC Sawgrass once in four previous starts (he finished T8 last year) and it looked like he was going to make it one for five after a disastrous front nine, where he posted a six-over 42. Then, he staged a fantastic comeback, showing great fight and a lot of heart to make the cut on the number.
