Although he contended at The Barclays last week, Tiger Woods was visibly in a considerable amount of pain after tweaking his back due to sleeping in a soft hotel bed. At one point on Sunday, Woods collapsed on all fours because of a back spasm, which was a cause for concern, especially when he took a few moments until he got back up.

When he finished on Sunday, he told CBS that it was “all hypothetical” whether or not he would be healthy enough to play in the second leg of the FedExCup Playoffs, the Deutsche Bank Championship, which benefits his foundation.

Adam Scott watched his birdie putt on 18 just slide past the hole and leaned over his long putter with a slightly disappointed smile, thinking he needed it for a chance to at least get into a playoff. He tapped in for his bogey-free, six-under 66, 11-under total, which at the time put him in a four-way tie at the top — but the leaders were just coming down the stretch, with a number of chances to make birdie and best Scott’s effort.

Woodland and Kuchar teamed up to win the 2011 World Cup

It was a perfect day at Liberty National during the third round of The Barclays — but it was still a grind if you actually had to play in the breezy and tough conditions. Well, with the exception of Kevin Chappell, who posted nine-under 62, trumping the course record set by Keegan Bradley a day earlier. Chappell was even a bit surprised and bemused with with his impressive round.

Tiger struggling

Tiger struggling

Due to Thursday’s weather delays, 63 players returned on Friday morning to finish the first round and then going on to play their second. The other half of the field that finished the first round Thursday and then teed off late on Friday will return on Saturday morning to complete their second rounds. Yeah, it’s a bit of a cluster, but good news is the weather was beautiful today and the forecast calls for nothing but more sunshine over the weekend.

Another week on the PGA Tour, another weather delay courtesy of Mother Nature. The first round of The Barclays was a stop-and-go kind of day, with two weather delays totaling six hours at Liberty National.

Tiger Woods, who finished first in FedExCup points in the regular season, shot a solid four-under, bogey-free 67 on Thursday. Woods, who had to cut his pro-am short on Wednesday because of stiffness in his back and neck, said he felt “a bit stiff” following the second rain delay, but he would receive treatment tonight and be ready to go on Friday.

Adam Scott celebrating in the Green Jacket

No question Tiger Woods has had spectacular year — he’s won five times this season, including two World Golf Championships, but once again, he came up short at the majors. I’ve been discussing this topic with several people recently (and I plan on asking other players the same question that Adam Scott addressed today), if Tiger or any other player would trade five regular wins for one major.

It’s a no-brainer to me. He’d rather have a major number 15.
