You’ve read Part 1 and Part 2 of this series, and lastly, we have Part Rory.

Rory McIlroy overcame a four-shot deficit at the start of the final round to beat Adam Scott on the 72nd hole at Royal Sydney and win the Australian Open, his first victory in 2013. We spent the day with McIlroy last week in Las Vegas at TPC Summerlin, where Rory talked about getting dialed in with the latest equipment from Nike Golf, along with his increased performance since putting the new clubs and ball in his bag.

...And it's good!

For the win!

Rory McIlroy stood over a 12-footer for birdie on the 72nd hole of the Australian Open. You could feel the tension in the air (or even through the TV and the announcers’ voices) — Adam Scott had just bogeyed to drop to 17-under for the tournament and opened the door for McIlroy, who trailed by a shot heading into the final hole, to win in regulation, or at worst, likely, force a playoff.

McIlroy, who putted beautifully on Sunday, stroked the putt and there was never a doubt it was going in the hole, as the 24-year-old from Northern Ireland raised his arms in celebration, along with a deep sigh of relief. After all, it hadn’t been the smoothest time for Rory on- and- off- the course in 2013. But this win has salvaged an otherwise somewhat forgettable year.

After Scott posted a four-under 68 in the third round on Saturday, he took a four-shot lead over McIlroy, who struggled early in the round but rallied to shoot a two-under 70 and keep a bit of pressure on Scott for the final round.

Sign of better times to come?

Rory McIlroy has been embroiled several unfortunate controversial situations this year, but one of them was finally put to rest on Sunday. McIlroy and his former sponsor Oakley “amicably” settled a legal dispute, according to the Irish golfer via a somewhat amusing statement on his website:
