Wunderkinds Rickie Fowler and Ryo Ishikawa made bold fashion statements at Pebble Beach last week. Now I’m not sure how I feel about the monochromatic color schemes with hints of white, and I wonder what Marty Hackel would say about these costumes.

The San Francisco Chronicle asked Chris “Remember me, I was Robin” O’Donnell, who was teamed up with Fowler, his opinion on the attire of his youthful playing partners (Ishikawa and some actor called Lucas Black completed the foursome). O’Donnell quipped, “You mean the Skittles outfits?”

O’Donnell went on to poke some more fun, telling Fowler, “If I’d known, I would have worn a banana outfit or something.”

Attribute it to their age, I guess. But at least they’re bringing some much needed vibrancy to the buttoned-up-khaki-wearing PGA Tour.

After a few-month hiatus, this feature is back. In the spirit of winners, let’s start with Geoff Ogilvy, who defended his title last week and won the PGA Tour’s season opener, the SBS Championship. Despite a brilliant final round 63 by Rory Sabbatini, Ogilvy finished with a six-under 67 to edge out Sabbatini by one stroke.

Now, as reported last week, PUMA, Ogilvy’s former apparel sponsor, didn’t renew his contract. According to the Khaki Crusader and Chapeau Noir Golf, he sported Travis Mathew shirts on his way to the victory. KC added, “Geoff will wear T.M. clothing, sans logos, until the deal is announced officially.”

But what about his trousers? Chapeau Noir speculates they’re probably also T.M., but couldn’t confirm. I’m not an expert, but it seems Ogilvy can pull off just about any average slacks — though, the ones above look a tad…bunched?

With all the zany outfits Ian Poulter wears, he can usually work it pretty well, merely because of the way he carries himself. For instance, remember at the British Open when he appeared to be draped in his national flag? (And when he was playing terribly, the commentators dared say his clothes were a distraction, which was totally preposterous.)

But any style maven is going to have an off-day — Poults had one of these at the HSBC Champions when he wore purple plaid pants with a dash of red. So, let’s hope they get lost in his recession-proof closet.
