A reader brought to my attention a post that Carol Mann, former LPGA star and special ambassador to the World Golf Hall of Fame, wrote on her public Facebook page last week. Here’s the screen grab:
Mann had joined the Being Conservative Page’s “No Mosque at Ground Zero” cause on Facebook and she added her opinion on the matter:
I am against the Muslim worship center at Ground Zero because it’s too much of a flagrant demonstration of our own “tolerance” out of control. I do not believe the Muslims are children of the God I know, the one who sacrificed His only Son, Jesus, to provide forgiveness and salvation for us without earning it by “works….” All we have to do is believe in Christ and we gain His Kingdom. The United States is a Christian country, founded on Christian principles and with an expectation of Christian behavior. Let the Muslims erect their worship centers in other countries that are not Christian. Go away – soon!
Mann is certainly entitled to her own opinion (as is everyone). But it seems rather extraordinary that an ambassador of the World Golf Hall of Fame, which is supported by all of the world’s major golf organizations, including the the Asian Tour, the European Tour, Golf Writer’s Association of America, International Assoc. of Golf Administrators, Japan Golf Tour Organization, LPGA, PGA of America, PGA Tour, The R&A and the USGA, would carry such a view. What’s more, it’s posted on her public Facebook page — meaning it’s available to anyone — not just Mann’s “friends.”
And what does the World Golf Hall of Fame think about one of its three special ambassador’s stance?
“It’s Carol Mann’s personal website, so we’re not going to comment,” Jack Peter, the Hall of Fame’s Chief Operating Officer, told this site in a phone interview.

Ms. Mann is free to state her opinion on any subject, and World Golf people are entitled to distance themselves from her, and strip away her title, due to her comments. Freedom of speech doesn’t mean you can’t suffer consequences for your speech, it just means that you are free to make said speech, as long as it doesn’t incite violence, or pose an undue risk to other people. To quote Clarence “Big House” Gaines(famous NCAA basketball coach) “You have the right to say anything, you don’t know what you’re talking about, but you have the right to say it” This quotation goes to the heart of the matter.
A lot of wingnuts fail to understand is that if we follow in the footsteps of other nations, and disregard the freedom of man to worship as he pleases, then we are no better than the terrorists we are fighting. Even though I personally believe that George W. Bush was overly simplistic, he was right in declaring “They hate us for our freedom”. The day we start denying and disregarding the rights of man is the day in which we have agreed with those terrorists that freedom isn’t worthwhile. The day we become that country, is the day that democracy fails.
What I can’t figure out is that the right wing people don’t have an issue with the porn shops, the liquor stores and other things located near ground zero, but a mosque, a place of worship is somehow deemed to be wrong. Just remember, Americans of all walks of life died in those towers, and I can bet you, people that prayed to Allah were among the slain.

I live in Houston and have the utmost respect for Mrs. Mann as a former pro golfer and a LPGA/PGA teacher. I was thinking about talking golf lessons from her but not after her statements. She has the right to her opinion but her opinion will affect her job/business.
BTW, I am a Christian.

Carol Mann’s comments after English-gate broke on the LPGA 2 years, about *friends that won’t watch the LPGA if Koreans were in the lead* were already way out there. I’m surprised the World Golf Hall of Fame continued it’s association with her at that point.
Ms Mann is certainly entitled to her personal opinions and free to express them on facebook, but the World Golf Hall of Fame shouldn’t just look the other way this time. Perhaps they can change their name to the “English Talking Catholic Caucasian Golf Hall of Fame” to better align their objectives with Ms Mann’s.

I am looking forward to the South Park episode where the prophet Mohammed makes an appearance … what’s that? The creators of South Park have backed off and won’t be producing the episode they said they were going to make?
It appears that the First Amendment has already been tossed onto the trash heap by Mulsims and their bleeding heart liberal media friends – so, without the protection of the First Amendment, no Mosque, dudes. Can’t have it both ways.

I would not put two pennies of interest in anything Mann had to say. My one day caddying near her was enough to drive me off the women’s tour as a worker. She was vulgar, nasty, in a bad mood, treated her caddie badly and was not a good player in comparison to today. She and her type almost killed off the LPGA, and ruined some beautiful lives. Thank goodness so many smart and more open-minded ladies play there today. Wonder why other religions Mann despises were not listed? She probably supports the English only idea for the world-wide sport.

Marky Mark got it right. The First Amendment has been trampled to death by the muslims and their douchebag, bleeding heart liberal cronies. Their mosque would be a monument to victory. And to the nickelknob who used the term “wingnuts” (this guy MUST be a Rhodes Scholar!), I hardly think that liquor stores and porn shops are going to kill us. The Christian-hating, amoral “people that (should be “who”) prayed to Allah” will………without batting an eyelash. No mosque.
