Shooting Blanks

The above picture shows the mugshot and arrest report for PGA Tour pro Kris Blanks, a resident of Jupiter, Florida. Blanks was on his way to play in a charity event when he was arrested at Palm Beach International Airport on Sunday after TSA officers found a handgun inside his carry-on bag, according to the Palm Beach Post:

Just after 6 a.m. Sunday, Kristoffer Blanks, was on his way to catch a plane headed to Charlotte, N.C., when he entered an airport security checkpoint and placed his black backpack onto an X-ray conveyor belt.

As the bag went through screening, a Transportation Safety Administration officer found a .40-caliber Glock 27 with eight rounds in the magazine, a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office report said.

Deputies responded to the airport, took Blanks’ bag and arrested him on charges of carrying a concealed weapon.

During an interview with deputies, Blanks said he forgot to take his gun out of the bag after he returned home from a road trip the week before, the report said. He added he did not have a concealed weapons permit.

I hate it when I leave loaded guns in my backpack! Well, sounds like it was an…errr…innocent mistake, but he needed it for a road trip? Okay, to each their own. And I know this isn’t a laughing matter, but I’m amused. I mean, there’s definitely a joke about shooting Blanks in all of this.

Blanks has been on the PGA Tour since 2009. As of late, he’s been sidelined due to shoulder injuries. He’s only been able to play in one event so far this year — the Waste Management Phoenix Open, where he shot 74-75 to miss the cut.

Before sitting out the last-third of the 2012 season due to injury, Blanks made 23 starts, 11 of which he played through the weekend. His best finish was T11 at the Valero Texas Open, and while he was on a major medical exemption, he went back to the now-defunct PGA Tour Q-school as a precaution and finished T4 to re-earn his card.
