The chatter in the past few months that Tiger Woods was expected to change things up and kick off his 2012 season at the AT&T National Pebble Beach Pro-Am has now been confirmed. Woods announced on his website he will make his first start at the event since 2002:
“I’m excited to start my PGA Tour season at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am,” Woods said. “AT&T is a great partner to my Foundation, and I’m looking forward to playing in this event. I haven’t been to this tournament lately, but I have a lot of good memories at Pebble. It will be fun going back.”
…
“It’s always been one of my favorite spots,” said Woods, who first saw the breathtaking property with his late father, Earl, when he was playing junior golf. “It might be the prettiest place on earth.”
Tiger will make his 2012 world debut in Abu Dhabi at the HSBC Championship on January 26 (where he’s receiving a $3 million appearance fee).
A few things have changed since Tiger’s last start at Pebble ten years ago. The field has been cut from 180 pros and amateurs to 156 and Monterey Peninsula Country Club has replaced Poppy Hills Golf Course in the three-course rotation that includes Pebble Beach and Spyglass.
Now when do we find out who Tiger’s “celeb” partner will be?

Celebrity partner? I’d guess Ron Jeremy or Charlie Sheen.

A Bill Murray-Tiger Woods team would bring killer ratings.

Nice pic. Glad to see the marshals are finally keeping the galleries a safe distance from Tiger.

Maybe the CEO of Fuse Science.
Penny stock scams can use all the help they can get when initially pumping up the stock price.

This interesting quote from TW from 2000:
Q. Tiger, right now it is pretty obvious that you’re the dominant player on the PGA TOUR, and at the grand old age of 24, do you ever think about when you’re not going to be the dominant player on TOUR?
TIGER WOODS: Well, again, that’s a reality. Right now, I am playing well, and there will come a point in time when some new little punk will be about 6’6 and 230 and just bombing it by me, and I’ll be one of those old guys saying: “I remember when I used to be the long guy, now I’m just dinking it around here, laying it up on every par 5.” But somehow I’ll find a way to compete. But yeah, some day that day will come. And yeah, it is a reality, but you take — I haven’t really crossed that path yet. But when I do, I will accept it. That’s just the way it is. Your body will wear down. That’s just part of growing old. And the thing is, as long as you keep trying and keep learning — you’ve got to learn different ways to get the ball around and a lot of these young kids won’t have that experience, and, you know, hopefully experience will win out in the end — when I get there.
