Say it ain’t so! — Tiger Woods announced on Tuesday that he’ll play next week’s World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship, followed by The Honda Classic, March 1-4, and the WGC-Cadillac Championship, March 8-11. No surprise he’s competing in the WGCs, but this will be his first start at the Honda Classic, held at PGA National Resort & Spa Champion Course in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. (Okay, he played as an amateur in 1993 when it was called something else and held somewhere else.)
“I’ve heard great things about the Honda Classic, and now that I live here, I want to play whenever possible,” Woods said. “Jack’s [Nicklaus] involvement in the tournament and the benefits to the local community are also important.”
Tiger moved to nearby Jupiter Island last year, so this is technically a home game. I was already planning on covering the tournament, so this news is a bonus. The Honda is one of my favorite events of the season — logistics-wise is very media-friendly and I love watching the guys play the “Bear Trap.”
At the Chevron World Challenge in December, Woods said he planned on adding a tournament he’d never played to his schedule, and the Honda definitely makes the most sense.
When was the last time Woods made three consecutive starts?? It actually wasn’t that long ago — the 2010 FedExCup playoff, but he’s played so little the last few years that his last real full season was 2005.
Tiger’s on a roll. Maybe he’ll even join us at the iBar for a drink. But first, let’s see if he can get past the first round at Match Play this year. Fingers crossed.

Very interested to see how he plays the Honda. In the past, Tiger’s game allowed him to excel on the *really* tough courses, and only accentuated the disparity in his game versus the other pros. He definitely can’t hit that cut shot into some of the water protected par 3s here though.

You actually make it seem really easy along with your presentation however I to find this matter to be really something that I feel I’d never understand. It seems too complex and very large for me. I am looking ahead in your next publish, I’ll attempt to get the hang of it!
