Thanks to Shoshana for keeping me posted on the news while I was busy sunning myself on the beach — including the chatter about Tiger Woods kicking off his 2012 PGA Tour schedule at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, which the AP’s Doug Ferguson insinuated in November. On New Year’s Day a tweet from Golf Channel’s Jason Sobel triggered rumors that Tiger and Dallas Cowboys’ quarterback Tony Romo will play together at Pebble Beach, where the pros team up with celebs to compete in a tournament within the tournament.
Here’s a screenshot of Sobel’s tweet:
Which was followed later by this tweet from Ferguson:
With the Cowboys season finished, Romo has some time to get his game in shape or just dust off the rust. Unlike most pro athletes of other sports who aspire to compete in the pro ranks, Romo actually can play. In 2010 he made it through the U.S. Open local qualifier (in a playoff, no less) to advance to the sectional qualifier. Unfortunately, due to weather delays, he had to withdraw from the 36-hole event (but he wasn’t playing well, anyway) because he had a Cowboys team obligation the following day. In 2011 he gave it a go again, but he didn’t make it through the local qualifying.
Last time Romo and Tiger played a round together was during a pro-am at Congressional for the AT&T National in 2009.
I’m sure we’ll get confirmation soon enough — well, at least whether Tiger is playing by the Friday before tournament week deadline at 5pm ET (February 3rd, I believe). Who wouldn’t want to watch Tiger-Romo at Pebble Beach?

Yeah Tiger, get the best “am” to compete with you in a Pro-Am so you can actually start the year off with a win. Tiger, want a challenge? Play with me in that shit. If we win, you are the man again.

Romo’s index is +2.4, he and Tiger don’t stand a chance.

So they don’t have a low gross prize?
January 5th, 2012 on 2:06 am
If you’re looking for a golf course to make a +2.4 look like a 10 handicapper Pebble is the place, though it won’t be setup anything like at the last Open when Drew Brees was about 30 over par.

Give him George Lopez, his schtich will ensure Tiger misses the cut.

I’ve always enjoyed Shoshanna’s postings and tweets, but if she is something of a site contributor, is it too much to ask to have an actual name (like the other folks listed on the WUP team) being referenced ?

@BrianS, what do you mean by actual name? (it’s on my twitter profile, not really going for anonymity)

Was this pic taken before or after TW’s rehab?

Weird, when was the last time Tiger braved a pro-am? I thought he hated the 6-hour rounds and all that nonsense.

Romo better hope he has three right hands–he’s going to need them.
