C’mon Aussie!

Battling tough and windy conditions at the Valero Texas Open on Sunday, Steven Bowditch held on to capture his first PGA Tour victory. Despite missing a three-footer on the last hole, the 30-year-old Australian had enough of a cushion to still win by a stroke over Will MacKenzie, who has finished 6th or better in three of his last four starts, and Daniel Summerhays.

Bowditch shot a final-round, four-over 76 — the highest non-major score by a winner since Fred Couples at the 1983 Kemper Open. But, who cares, a win is a win at the end of the day.

Bow down to Bowdo

Coming into the excruciating long week at PGA West for Q-school finals, Steven Bowditch felt like his form was taking a turn for the better. When you’re fighting to re-earn your job–the Australian had conditional status on the PGA Tour last year–the timing couldn’t have been more perfect.

The Australian shot an eight-under 64 on the Nicklaus Tournament course to take a one-shot lead through 90 holes heading into Monday’s sixth and final round.

Bowditch battled clinical depression

Steven Bowditch went on a birdie barrage at Colonial during the second round, carding seven through 16 holes, before a bogey on the 17th dropped him back to six-under. The 27-year-old Australian signed for a 64 to follow his three-under 67 effort. With first-round co-leader David Toms still on the course, Bowditch is the leader in the clubhouse, along with Charlie Wi.
