McIlroy wants to clear the air on his decision to skip The Players
Rory McIlroy caused a little stir when he revealed via Twitter that he planned to skip THE PLAYERS, the PGA Tour’s premier regular season event. It was hard not to interpret the decision as a big middle finger. Look, as an independent contractor, McIlroy can play wherever he wants, but perhaps the offices of Chubby Chandler wanted to put out the fire quickly, so we don’t have to hear tireless conspiracy theories and headlines on Rory’s snub of the US tour. Curiously, an overly formal and grammatically proper tweet appeared on McIlroy’s account on Wednesday morning:

Just off winning the European Tour money title, Martin Kaymer has withdrawn from the Chevron World Challenge, hosted by Tiger Woods. The ’10 PGA Champion finished atop the Race to Dubai standings, taking the throne as Europe’s No. 1 (not official world ranking), along with a bonus check of $1.5 million.
Ian Poulter's blunder cost him the tournament and almost $600,000
In a year plagued by strange rules infractions, it’s almost fitting that Ian Poulter capped off the year with another one at the Dubai World Championship. On the second playoff hole against Robert Karlsson, Poulter was bending over to replace his ball when he dropped it, causing it to fall and move his “lucky” marker. He was assessed a one-stroke penalty and instead of putting for birdie to force another extra hole, he was going for par and he missed the 40-footer.
Martin Kaymer: not in Tim Finchem's good books
The current Race to Dubai leader and US PGA champion, Martin Kaymer, has decided not to take up US PGA Tour membership next season. Speaking in the build-up to this week’s Race to Dubai finale (in Dubai, of all places), the 25-year-old made it clear that the European Tour will still be the circuit he calls home next year:

Yeah, you know the one– where Monty made the right picks in spite of all the chatter about Paul Casey and Justin Rose being worthy inclusions in the team? Well, the European Tour’s Tournament Committee has taken steps to ensure that a similar furore is avoided in future by increasing the number of tournament entries required for membership from 12 to 13.
