The above effort might just be my favourite, but the USPGA Championship had it’s fair share of noteworthy tweets… (continue reading…)
Keegan Bradley, Brendan Steele, Jim Furyk, Adam Scott: there are long putters– broomhandle and belly– everywhere you look during the third round of this year’s PGA Championship.
It’s not really that much of surprise, given the nature of the Athletic Club’s test and the tendency of consistent ball-strikers to develop balky putters, but I’m not confident in the long putter’s ability to secure a first major victory this week.
Everything appears to be in place– a class field comprised primarily, though not exclusively, of the world’s best players; an audience of nearly forty-thousand earnest, obsessively hydrating spectators; a major championship purse and trophy to act as incentives — but I can’t remember a major championship Friday quite so lacking in atmosphere. Tiger Woods began his first round of the 93rd PGA Championship with a birdie on the tenth hole, then added it another on the twelfth, and yet another on the fourteenth. He coasted to the fifteenth tee on a wave of mounting hysteria. The smile was back, the energy was back and, most importantly, the game was back. (continue reading…)
Steve Stricker’s first round of seven-under-par doesn’t just about guarantee him a place atop the PGA Championship leaderboard as the tournament heads into its second day, it means he enters the record books as only the 23rd player to shoot 63 in a major championship. (continue reading…)
