I think Carlota Ciganda is pumped up!

I think Carlota Ciganda is excited…

Heading into Sunday singles with a five-point deficit, the U.S. team needed nothing short of a miracle to take back the Solheim Cup, but Europe never gave them much of a chance to make a run.

Until Sunday at Colorado Golf Club, the Europeans had never won the Solheim Cup on foreign soil. And they didn’t just win, they clobbered the Americans, with the finally tally: Europe 18, U.S. 10.

I tried something different this evening because I was short on time and had to get to the airport for my flight to the Palm Beach area. Yep, the Honda Classic kicks off the Florida swing, which in the past two years has been a joy to cover.

I also went on a little adventure today — nothing crazy. I just went on a field trip to 30 Rock to check out the taping of “The Crossover,” a new sports/pop-culture show hosted by Michelle Beadle and Dave Briggs (my apologies, I called him Rob when I was stammering during the solo #WUPHangout) on the NBC Sports Network.

Match Play Bracket

It’s just about that time again! — golf’s answer to or closest version of March Madness: the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship takes place in Tucson, Arizona, next week. Wednesday — with the 32 first round matches — is one of the most compelling days of the season.

This year’s field has been finalized, as the deadline to enter was Friday at 5pm ET. Since the seeding and brackets are determined by the player’s Official World Ranking, they will be revealed on Sunday evening after the conclusion of the Northern Trust Open (when the latest OWGR standings are determined based on finishes at Riviera this week).

*Gasp*

Tiger Woods couldn’t make a putt to save his life on Thursday — but what else is new these days? — and missed a five-footer on the 18th hole at Dove Mountain to lose to Nick Watney in the second round of the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship. Given Tiger’s putting woes lately, it shouldn’t have been a surprise, but I was admittedly shocked (initial reaction went something like *gasp,* followed by “wow”). So was Watney.

First I was afraid, I was petrified...

Match Play Wednesday is one of my favorite days of the golfing season. The only downside is there’s so much happening it’s hard to keep track of it all! Kudos to Conor for breaking down all thirty-freaking-two of the matches (sorry, dude!) — his picks fared alright, but as we all know, sometimes you have better luck using a coin to fill out your bracket.

Raise your hand if you had Luke Donald in your Round of 4? Yeah, well, if you picked Ernie Els to pull out a can of whoop ass, then you deserve major props. I think it’s safe to assume a lot of brackets busted when Els trumped Luke 5&4. Luckily, we’re still in the game because of the points system that Golfweek uses. Phew.

Tiger taming? Naw, but we'll see...

I know this is kind of late notice, but we’ve started a WUP group over at Golfweek’s Match Play Challenge. How do you join? Go HERE, fill out the bracket, and when it asks for your contact information, write in “Weiunderpar” in the group field.

Golfweek is offering tons of cool prizes, but can they beat WUP’s award? …
