Player reaction to Vijay Singh v. PGA Tour

Singh sues

Singh admitted he used deer antler spray and it’s the Tour’s fault?

As expected, TPC Sawgrass was buzzing with the news of Vijay Singh, who filed a lawsuit against the PGA Tour on Wednesday, the day before its flagship event, The Players Championship. It was a surprising turn of events since the Tour had cleared Singh of any wrongdoing last week, and the timing couldn’t have been any better — by better, I mean, worse.

Singh’s complaint purports the Tour’s action resulted in the Hall of Fame golfer to be “humiliated, ashamed, ridiculed, scorned and emotionally distraught.” (You can read the full complaint here.) He also claims the Tour acted unlawfully in the handling of the testing of the deer antler spray that Singh used.  (continue reading…)

VIDEO: 2013 Masters Sunday wrap and chat

Well, that was a thrilling finish! Last night when I was writing my preview post for today, the headline I had type was: “One for the ages.” For some reason, I changed it, but turned out, this Masters really was one for the ages.

Thanks so much for tweeting your questions. FYI, we started answering them around the 22 minute mark. (continue reading…)

Masters Saturday recap/Sunday primer: Game plans, redemption stories and Aussies

Sneds!

Look who is at top of leaderboard: The hottest player on the PGA Tour in early 2013: Sneds!

What a rollercoaster. What a day. What a week. Oh, just another non-controversial Masters. I totally jinxed it earlier this week when I thought I was going to get to watch this year’s Masters relatively stress-free from my couch with an easy workload. And of course, Tiger Woods was going to cruise to victory for his 15th major and all would be right in the world.

I should have known better. That doesn’t happen. In fact, it never does, especially when you think it will. Duh. (continue reading…)

The Masters extends Tiger Woods a lifeline

Tiger drops

The drop that shook the world

Who said golf was boring?!? My roommate Carson Griffith, a freelance journalist who until February was the senior gossip columnist for the New York Daily News, has learned so much about the game and The Masters since Thursday, particularly in the last 24 hours.

When I asked for a free association, she said: “Crazy pants, Aussie accents, 14-year-old wunderkind, slow play penalties, and just as much Tiger Woods controversy as I got on the tabloid covers.”

Sums it up! And clearly, *tons* of drama. Yep, this is truly a Masters unlike any other.  (continue reading…)

Masters second-round recap: Day leads and an eighth-grader from China makes the cut

Day finished T2 in 2011 Masters

Day finished T2 in 2011 Masters

Jason Day loves Augusta National, and if you didn’t pick him in your pool or your Fantasy Golf team, then well, you should have listened to me! I kid, I kid.

In difficult conditions with swirling winds and tucked pins, Day, who is trying to become the first Australian to win The Masters, fired an impressive four-under 68, six-under total, to take a one-shot lead over fellow Australian Marc Leishman and 53-year-old Fred Couples. Day’s only other start was in 2011 when he finished T2.

Balls in the Air: Masters picks and other random predictions

Cute alert!

Cute alert!

It’s Wednesday before The Masters and it feels like Christmas Eve. I’ve been trying to explain that to my roommate, a non-golfer, who knows nothing about the game. She is insisting it can’t be Christmas tomorrow without presents and she will be incredibly disappointed if she doesn’t wake up to a tree with pretty lights with gifts underneath it.

“Yeah, dream on,” I told her.  (continue reading…)

The Masters 2012: Adam Scott returns to the site of the major he lost … only he doesn’t believe that

Andrew Redington/Getty Images

AUGUSTA, Ga. — In the blinding mid-afternoon sun, Adam Scott was busy finding himself answering more of the same questions. He had just finished doing his weekly session with the media, when he was intercepted coming out of the back door by a familiar friend in the Australian media. The request was for a little bit of alone time for the usual inquiries: What happened in the final round of The Masters last year and how is he going to correct it this year.

Paul Lawrie: the world is his oyster.

Former Open champion Paul Lawrie reclaimed his place amongst the sport’s elite by securing his seventh European Tour title at the awkwardly-dubbed Commercialbank Qatar Masters presented by Dolphin Energy this afternoon. (continue reading…)

Booooo! Play Suspended in Doha

Paul Lawrie against a backdrop of swirling dust.

Day One in Qatar: Every Time You Think He’s Finished, He Pulls You Back In!

Didn't think this guy would be making an appearance, did you?

The European Tour’s lucrative roll along the Gulf coast continues this week, and while the Commercialbank Qatar Masters presented by Dolphin Energy (henceforth, the Qatar Masters) can’t quite muster the glamour of its bigger, brasher sister, the Abu Dhabi Championship, its first round was far from lacking in both excitement and oddity. (continue reading…)
