As expected, first-round play of the Phoenix Open has been delayed due to frost. In other words, the ground is frozen and temperatures aren’t rising at TPC Scottsdale. At 9:30am local time, it’s 32 degrees. Good news is that it’s finally not below freezing! Right now, officials hope to start play around 10:40am (three-hour delay), but look for the delay to be delayed again.

Balls in the Air: Waste Management Open
Welcome to Balls in the Air, where I size up my Fantasy Golf picks of the week, featuring guys to watch (or not) and interesting story lines. Disclaimer: My picks may suck, but I do think through the factors that may weigh in.
Welcome to the Phoenix Open, the Greatest Show on the Frost, the Tour’s Party Stop, where golf is secondary for the fans and beer is primary. Unfortunately, we’ve had a chilly front come through Scottsdale the past few days. Wednesday’s pro-am was canceled because the greens were frozen. Chances of play on Thursday kicking off as scheduled appear very slim. Golfers playing in the morning wave, check the phones for text message updates and then go back to sleep. Guys in the afternoon wave should just be on-call starting around noon, but realize the odds are slim that they’ll tee off. Bring games and iPads!
Tuesday/Wednesday at the Phoenix Open, Picture Edition
As you may have heard, Wednesday didn’t happen because it’s freezing in Scottsdale (the frozen desert!), but Tuesday was rockin’, especially compared to Monday. Check out the picture edition of the day…
The Greatest Show on Grass: Pro-Am Canceled Due to Frost
Honestly, we’re in Scottsdale, Arizona?! Perhaps “The Greatest Show on Frost” would make a better tagline for the Phoenix tour stop right now. Now I know I’m not going to get any sympathy from the rest of the country, which is largely under snow and ice, but c’mon, we’re in the desert.
