Tiger's classic release of the club during his follow-through
When I tuned in for coverage of the final round of the Frys.com Open, I cringed a little as I saw Tiger Woods wearing his signature Red Shirt with no chance to contend and starting on the wrong nine (he was in the first group to tee off on No. 10). Then there was the whole hot dog assault, which is farcical in some regards and, as several say, symbolic of how far Tiger’s fallen.
Given his methodical logic, Tiger probably has a plan mapped out for his comeback and he might be using these minor events and the Presidents Cup as warmups for 2012. I mean, what did we expect from Tiger last week, anyway? Not a “W.”
*Update, 12:15pm ET: Sorry, the video is no longer available. I knew it was only a matter of time for the Tour Censor Committee to have it taken down, but good news! — Deadspin still has the footage! And good luck getting them to get rid of it.

Pffftttt...Q-school, what?!?
Although Briny Baird and Bryce Molder battling it out for their first PGA Tour victory in a six-hole playoff was mildly entertaining, I walked away from the Frys.com Open the most impressed with 21-year-old Bud Cauley. Playing on a sponsor exemption this week, Cauley shot four rounds in the 60s to place solo third, his best finish in seven Tour starts. (continue reading…)

With darkness quickly closing in at CordeValle, Bryce Molder drained a seven-footer for birdie on No. 17 to beat Briny Baird on the sixth playoff hole. (Finally. Cripes, it was like, does either of you want to win this tournament?) Before Baird putted, Molder fixed a ballmark in his own line and then right before Molder putted, he tapped down the green six or seven times in the same area in front of the cup. (continue reading…)

Tiger Woods is well into the final round of the Frys.com Open — you know, trying to get that W! Whoops, he really must have meant “W for weekend” in his Wednesday presser. Woods is seven shots back of leader Briny Baird.
By the way, I was cracking up at some of the comments in the last Tiger post (with all due respect to Baird): “Tiger is getting waxed by Briny Baird!” or “Forget Baird, he’s getting waxed by Roland Thatcher, too!” Yeah, I censored those a little, but you get the point. (continue reading…)

After Tiger Woods finished his pro-am at CordeValle for the Frys.com Open on Wednesday afternoon, he spoke to the press. Surprise! — there were no surprises.
