In case you were out Friday night (ICYWOFN) — and I hope you were or at least had better things to do! — then you probably missed the #WUPHangout at Riviera.

Again, please give me some slack this week as it’s not exactly been an…errr…never mind. Feedback and constructive criticism is more than welcome. These Hangouts are still relatively new to me, so, you know, it’s a process.

Olympic: a good U.S. Open venue?

I had a few post-U.S. Open discussion points I wanted to throw out there, but it’s obviously a little after the fact now. I should have a put something up earlier this week, but when I tell you I’ve been sick and barely been able to make it from my bed to the bathroom, I’m not kidding. I caught some sort of bug in San Francisco — thanks to the awesome weather — and naturally it got worse flying cross-country, not to mention the general exhaustion.

I still don’t have much of a voice, so don’t make fun of me if you see me at the Travelers this weekend (I’m trying to get my butt up there!). Good news is I’m pretty sure I’m no longer contagious. I mean, it’s been over a week. (continue reading…)

McIlroy eyes golf's biggest payout

After opening with a bogey-free, eight-under 64, Rory McIlroy shot a three-under 69 to take a two-shot lead at the Shanghai Masters at the midway mark. McIlroy struggled a bit on the front nine, finding the water hazard off the tee on the par-4 ninth to post a double-bogey, but he regrouped and carded four birdies on the back nine, including the 18th. Well, I don’t remember the last time I was this pumped up over a final-round leaderboard. It has the makings for an exciting finish, especially coming down to that great closing stretch of holes. Good evening from the Open Championship at Royal St. George’s! I can’t believe another major is already upon us. It feels like the US Open was just last week. Well, it was only three weeks ago. I know this is the way the schedule works every year, but it still creeps up on me (though this is only my second year covering the tourneys on-site). But much has changed in the time between the Opens: Rory-mania has engulfed Sandwich. The US Open champ can’t go anywhere without being bombarded by fans, fellow players, press, you name it. CROMWELL, Conn. — If you saw Fredrik Jacobson, with his golf shirt slightly untucked and sporting his usual painter’s cap, beating balls at the driving range, his unorthodox swing could lead you to believe he was a five-handicapper rather than a professional golfer with multiple wins worldwide.
