ICYWOFN: #WUPHangout Friday at Riviera

In case you were out Friday night (ICYWOFN) — and I hope you were or at least had better things to do! — then you probably missed the #WUPHangout at Riviera.

Again, please give me some slack this week as it’s not exactly been an…errr…never mind. Feedback and constructive criticism is more than welcome. These Hangouts are still relatively new to me, so, you know, it’s a process.

One last thing: earlier this week, Shoshana was a guest on Dimplehead’s Podcast. Check it out.

2012 U.S. Open mega-hangover…

Olympic: a good U.S. Open venue?

I had a few post-U.S. Open discussion points I wanted to throw out there, but it’s obviously a little after the fact now. I should have a put something up earlier this week, but when I tell you I’ve been sick and barely been able to make it from my bed to the bathroom, I’m not kidding. I caught some sort of bug in San Francisco — thanks to the awesome weather — and naturally it got worse flying cross-country, not to mention the general exhaustion.

I still don’t have much of a voice, so don’t make fun of me if you see me at the Travelers this weekend (I’m trying to get my butt up there!). Good news is I’m pretty sure I’m no longer contagious. I mean, it’s been over a week. (continue reading…)

Asia Money-Grab Events Update: McIlroy Extends Lead in Shanghai, Overton Goes Low in Malaysia

McIlroy eyes golf's biggest payout

After opening with a bogey-free, eight-under 64, Rory McIlroy shot a three-under 69 to take a two-shot lead at the Shanghai Masters at the midway mark. McIlroy struggled a bit on the front nine, finding the water hazard off the tee on the par-4 ninth to post a double-bogey, but he regrouped and carded four birdies on the back nine, including the 18th. Your WGC-Bridgestone Invitational Final Round Debate Thread: Gotta Love the ‘Board

It's go time!

Well, I don’t remember the last time I was this pumped up over a final-round leaderboard. It has the makings for an exciting finish, especially coming down to that great closing stretch of holes. At least it better! Of course, now I’ve probably jinxed it — someone is going to run away from the pack and it’ll be a huge bore! (continue reading…)

Eastern Promise: Your Third Round Debate Thread

Ryo Ishikawa: the opposite of Samson, he gets stronger the less hair he has.

They don’t call it Moving Day for nothing!

The third round of the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational has been a textbook Tour Saturday. The antipodean darlings of the first two days, Adam Scott and Jason Day, have continued to hover around the summit of the leaderboard, but a clutch of high-profile rivals have also found their rhythm and thrown their hats into the mix. (continue reading…)

Let the Inquest Begin: Your (Belated) Second Round Open Thread

Fashion innovator and friend of the blog, Ryan Moore

We’re a little over halfway through the second round of the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone and we have a four-way tie at the top! Overnight leader Adam Scott has been joined on eight-under by fan of hoodies and inappropriate ties Ryan Moore and the so-called Youth Movement’s Jason Day and Rickie Fowler. (continue reading…)

WUP Open Championship Programming Notes

Stay out of the bunkers!

Good evening from the Open Championship at Royal St. George’s! I can’t believe another major is already upon us. It feels like the US Open was just last week. Well, it was only three weeks ago. I know this is the way the schedule works every year, but it still creeps up on me (though this is only my second year covering the tourneys on-site). But much has changed in the time between the Opens: Rory-mania has engulfed Sandwich. The US Open champ can’t go anywhere without being bombarded by fans, fellow players, press, you name it. It’s Tiger-esque, except McIlroy is a lot more approachable, for better or worse. (continue reading…)

“Junkman” Jacobson for the Win!

Freddy is fiery

CROMWELL, Conn. — If you saw Fredrik Jacobson, with his golf shirt slightly untucked and sporting his usual painter’s cap, beating balls at the driving range, his unorthodox swing could lead you to believe he was a five-handicapper rather than a professional golfer with multiple wins worldwide. He doesn’t have the smoothest move through the ball, but he gets up and down from everywhere. That’s why he’s called the “Junkman.” (continue reading…)

Bogeyless Jacobson Leads Travelers Pack

Freddy Jac!

CROMWELL, Conn. — While the final group was hacking its way around TPC River Highlands in the third round of the Travelers Championship, a few holes ahead Fredrik Jacobson was putting on a little clinic, firing a flawless seven-under 63 . In fact, Jacobson, who found every fairway on Saturday, hasn’t had a bogey in 54 holes. (continue reading…)

Low Scoring Ahoy! Your Players’ Championship Second Round Open Thread

Nick Watney looking quite pleased with himself

We may have lost Tiger, but there’s some serious golf in the offing this afternoon! (continue reading…)

  • About Me

Hi! My name is Stephanie Wei. I grew up in Seattle. I live in Manhattan, NYC. I played competitive golf for ten years in the junior and college ranks. I went to Yale, where I played on the women's golf team and graduated in '05 with a B.A. in History.

I still enjoy pegging it, but don't ask me my handicap because I stopped keeping one when I left for college. More important, I'm feisty and I like to smile a lot. I also love sports, spandex and surprises.

I'm a freelance writer and reporter, as well as a contributor for Sports Illustrated Golf+.
