Guy who bugged Donald Trump now a national hero

Farmer Michael Forbes has been named “Top Scot” at this year’s Glenfiddich Spirit of Scotland Awards.

The 60-year-old sprung to fame earlier this year as the unlikely star of “You’ve Been Trumped”, a documentary charting the contentious development of property mogul Donald Trump’s multi-million dollar resort project on the Aberdeenshire coast. (continue reading…)

‘You’ve Been Trumped’ makes it to air, leaves The Donald looking small

Monty was there when it opened? It's all beginning to makes sense...

A feature-length documentary detailing the extraordinary tactics employed by Donald Trump during the planning and construction of his course design project in Aberdeenshire, Scotland survived a late challenge by the billionaire’s legal team to air last night on BBC 2, one of the network’s flagship television stations.

Titled “You’ve Been Trumped”, the film drew an audience of 1.1m (40% above the Sunday night average) and succeeded in provoking a wave of anti-Trump sentiment on social media. (continue reading…)

Trump Has Big Plans for Doral

Soon, Donald, all this will be yours.

The exploits of comedy property magnate Donald Trump are a favourite subject of this blog, but whereas covering, say, his ongoing dispute with the Scottish government or his slightly suspicious Bronx public course deal are matters of choice, oddball detours from PGA Tour business, the billionaire’s purchase of Doral Resorts (the venue for this week’s Cadillac Championship) has made matters Trump genuinely newsworthy.

Today at a pre-tournament press conference, he and architect du jour Gil Hanse explained their lofty plans for the “tired” venue. (continue reading…)

Behind the Scenes at Doral, Pre-Tourney Edition

Due to popular demand, “Behind the Scenes” is back — not that it really left — but it will appear on a weekly (or regular) basis going forward now…

Here now, I’m attempting the TaylorMade’s Rocketballz Launch Party Glow Ball Experience, wearing a dress and no shoes (not to mention a two glasses of wine deep). The first swing was decent and made it into the “target box,” but I should have stopped while I was ahead because it’s an understatement to say the next few attempts were embarrassing!

The Donald’s Grave Will Be an Immovable Obstruction

Trump!

Given his obvious obsession with branding and the erection of roaring, ostentatious monuments to the cult of his own abrasive personality, it should come as no surprise to learn that Donald Trump, would-be owner of the “world’s greatest golf course”, has selected Trump™ National Golf Club as the site of his final resting place. (continue reading…)

Today in Trump: Donald Turns His Attention to the Bronx

Citizens of the Bronx, as depicted in popular documentary film "The Warriors".

Undeterred by his ongoing Aberdeenshire debacle, Donald Trump has reined in his world-beating hubris (just a little) and set his sights on running a public course in the Bronx.

Last night, the New York City Franchise and Concession Review Committee (or the NYCFCRC, for the cool kids among you) voted 5-1 in favour of allowing the suspiciously-coiffured property magnate to assume control of a $180 million project at Ferry Point Park.

Unsurprisingly, some people have a problem with this. (continue reading…)

Hurrah! Trump Failing to Conquer Scotland

The Donald: smug and slappable.

A report in today’s Guardian suggests that Donald Trump’s plans for a £750m (that’s approximately $12 trillion US) resort in Scotland are on the verge of unravelling.

Trump has halted development on the project – modestly dubbed the “Trump International Golf Links” – ostensibly as a result of a local authority decision to construct an offshore wind farm, but thebillionaire’s critics see the decision as further evidence of the resort’s underperformance.

Trump Discarded as 2012 Scottish Open Host

Trump trumping in Scotland

In the wake of the Scottish Open losing Barclays as its title sponsor after a ten-year relationship, European Tour commissioner George O’Grady has ruled out American tycoon Donald Trump as the replacement to host the event. Well, at least for now. O’Grady says it’s not a possibility because The Donald’s new course, Trump International Golf Links in Aberdeen, Scotland, won’t be ready until 2014, according to Reuters. Trump Breaks Ground on “World’s Greatest” (and Most Controversial) Golf Course

The Donald’s contentious billion-dollar golf resort project in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, is underway despite the protests of angry Scots, Tilda Swinton and environmental groups.

After nearly five years of negotiations, nine planning applications, nuisance tactics, threats of compulsory purchases and name-calling, The Donald stood pompously atop a sand dune and gloated as bulldozers barged in to start work on building “the world’s greatest golf course for Scotland and for the great game of golf.”

And then he emptied a can of hairspray into what’s left of his hair and five more into the sky.
