Tour slow-playing slow play

The waiting game...

Slow play has been an epidemic on the PGA Tour since as long as anyone can remember. Every year it’s the same ol’ story — fans/media/players complain and it’s always brought up at least once in the annual Players Meeting, but the pace of play on Tour hasn’t improved. It’s become one of those things that’s almost become part of the game. At least on Tour, but Kevin Na’s waggles and whiffs put a massive spotlight on the slow play issue, which was already a point of contention heading into the week.

Interesting enough, this week’s event marks the 20th anniversary of the last time a player — Dilliard Pruitt, who is now, coincidentally, a Tour rules official — was stroked a one-shot penalty for slow play at the ’92 Byron Nelson Classic.  *Update: Last player stroked was acutally Glen Day at the ’95 Honda Classic.

Sunday Dartboard: Louis reigns in Malaysia, Pettersson rolls at the Heritage and sundress season rages on

Another crown for King Louis. Hugs!

I’ve noticed the “girl in the green dress” has caused quite a bit of interest in the comments section in yesterday’s post. Not that I should be surprised — I mean, sex sells! I’m pretty sure that one picture linked in the thread was the most forwarded text message on the PGA Tour earlier this week. With the way it’s been making the rounds, your best friend’s brother’s grandmother will soon receive it.

Welcome to sundress season on tour! (continue reading…)

2012 RBC Heritage open thread: Sundresses, yachts and koozies

View of the famed lighthouse at Harbour Town Golf Links on Saturday

Per popular request — meaning, like, two people — I’m tossing up an open thread/dartboard, where you can all vent about your grimaces and praises with The Heritage. My main ones? Well, the beautiful views (which is up for several interpretations! LOLZ!).

Anyway, some points of interest, including several highlights and sightings last night at the harbor and “Quarterdeck.” (continue reading…)

Best HUG-ME-NOW Moments of 2011

Thanks for believing in me! I love you, man!

As 2011 has ended and the 2012 season officially starts tomorrow, we’re (still) taking an obligatory look at the winners and losers of 2011. First, we reviewed the best shots. Then, we cringed through the greatest meltdowns. We also checked out some players who were considered overachievers. Next, we took a gander at those who had the most disappointing seasons, along with the most notable Tiger moments.

To cap off a look back at an incredible 2011, we’ll go through some of the best feel-good stories — which is my personal favorite because believe it or not, I’m a huge sucker for sap (I just don’t like to admit to it usually). Here we go in no particular order… (continue reading…)

Knost Takes Wild Ride to Card

Oh, the joy and the pain! And then the joy again!

It’s hard to grasp the full range of intense emotions at the finish line of PGA Tour Q-school. It’s even harder for the 29 players (top 25 and ties), who earned their cards for 2012, to put into words their joy and relief. Which is also what makes the atmosphere so awesome and inspiring (and heartbreaking for those who have to wait another year for another shot).

Take Colt Knost, who walked into the scorer’s trailer with his eyes red and watery. After his agent and swing coach told him he was safely inside the number, he still fought back tears — simply from the emotional rollercoaster he had just endured, not just from the last 20 or so minutes, but the entire week. • About Me

Hi! My name is Stephanie Wei. I grew up in Seattle. I live in Manhattan, NYC. I played competitive golf for ten years in the junior and college ranks. I went to Yale, where I played on the women's golf team and graduated in '05 with a B.A. in History.

I still enjoy pegging it, but don't ask me my handicap because I stopped keeping one when I left for college. More important, I'm feisty and I like to smile a lot. I also love sports, spandex and surprises.

I'm a freelance writer and reporter, as well as a contributor for Sports Illustrated Golf+.
