Top Five Tiger Moments in 2011

A happy Tiger celebrating with Aussie fans

As 2011 has ended and the 2012 season is upon us, we’re (still) taking an obligatory look at the winners and losers of 2011. First, we reviewed the best shots. Then, we cringed through the greatest meltdowns. We also checked out some players who were considered overachievers. Next, we took a gander at those who had the most disappointing seasons. Since Shoshana worships Tiger Woods (borderline obsession!), she picked his top-five moments  of 2011 — a touching tribute to his 36th birthday (Dec 30). (continue reading…)

Els Chips Away at Tiger’s Prez Cup Performance

Ernie not so quick to jump on the 'Tiger is back' bandwagon

Calm down, everyone. The wise Ernie Els didn’t mean any disrespect, rather he pointed out the facts. After Tiger Woods played beautifully to beat Aaron Baddeley 4&3 in the Presidents Cup singles, many have proclaimed that Tiger is on pace to return to his pre-hydrant-era form. During Els’ presser at the South African Open, he was asked his thoughts on Tiger’s “comeback,” to which he replied: (continue reading…)

Phil Bullish on Tiger

The bride, the minister and the bridesmaid. Adorable!

Add Phil Mickelson to the camp that believes Tiger Woods will return to his winning ways. In fact, Mickelson, who finished tied for 33rd at the Singapore Open, said it’s “inevitable” Tiger will regain his form, according to the AFP on Sunday: (continue reading…)

Tiger Not Quite Back but Getting Closer

Tiger, is that you?

I know there’s been endless chatter over whether or not Tiger Woods is “back” after he showed flashes of his former self at the Australian Open last week, but for purposes of discussion, I’ll share a few of my thoughts to kick off the conversation. First of all, I think the majority of people were thrilled to see Tiger atop the leaderboard again and were disappointed (yet not all that surprised) that he fell back down. (Contrary to what Mark Steinberg believes, the media — at least 98% — wants Tiger to play well, albeit perhaps for self-serving purposes.) (continue reading…)

John Daly Regrets Pulling a John Daly

Whoops, I did it again!

John Daly feels remorse for walking off the golf course in a huff in the first round of the Australian Open, but naturally, it wasn’t his fault (it never is) that he had run out of balls — which only holds up as a defense figuratively speaking. (continue reading…)

Norman Couldn’t Walk the Walk

Blister in the sun!

Greg Norman missed the PGA of Australia’s 100th anniversary gala dinner on Friday night, fueling whispers throughout the fairways at the Australian Open the following day that Norman had snubbed the PGA or that his courtesy car had failed to arrive. But c’mon, Norman deserves more credit than those petty rumors, and he indeed had a reasonable excuse: The Shark had a horrible blister on his left heel, which was so debilitating that he left The Lakes course in bare feet after the second round, according to the AP: (continue reading…)

Left-Handed Logic: Chalmers Takes Aussie Open

It was Chalmers' second national title.

A closing 67 may have guaranteed Tiger Woods the lion’s share of the post-round headlines, but the final day of the 2011 Australian Open belonged to Greg Chalmers. (continue reading…)

Tiger Falls Down (Under): Parsing the Post-Round Chatter

Frustration... and some awful trouser-shoe coordination.

Tiger Woods made five bogeys and a measly two birdies during a turbulent third round at The Lakes.

Frustrated by the disappearance of the elegance and control that defined his performance over the first two days, the man formerly known as the greatest athlete on the planet cut an animated figure in post-round interview. (continue reading…)

Australian Open Recap: Senden Surges to the Top

Easy does it.

A poor start from the high-profile overnight leader ceded centre stage to a trio of Aussies on day three of the Emirates Australian Open. (continue reading…)

Day: ‘Tiger’s known for shoving things down people’s throats.’

Jason Day: master of innuendo.

Everyone’s been pretty impressed by the performance of Tiger Woods over the first two days of the Australian Open, but the exhibition has been a particularly special one for Queensland native Jason Day. (continue reading…)

  • About Me

Hi! My name is Stephanie Wei. I grew up in Seattle. I live in Manhattan, NYC. I played competitive golf for ten years in the junior and college ranks. I went to Yale, where I played on the women's golf team and graduated in '05 with a B.A. in History.

I still enjoy pegging it, but don't ask me my handicap because I stopped keeping one when I left for college. More important, I'm feisty and I like to smile a lot. I also love sports, spandex and surprises.

I'm a freelance writer and reporter, as well as a contributor for Sports Illustrated Golf+.
