Golf Digest’s off-season traffic-booster, the Hottest Golfer bracket, has drawn to a close.
The “winner”, who sealed victory in the sort of electoral landslide usually reserved for faux-democratic totalitarian dictatorships, was LPGA winner and Solheim Cup veteran Sandra Gal.
The German positively crushed Rickie Fowler in the final, battle-of-the-sexes match-up, receiving an entirely plausible 99.61% of the vote.
An apologetic Sam Weinman, whose sympathies probably lay with the David Cassidy lookalike, was quick to undermine both the winner and competition format:
“Gal received more than 80,000 votes to earn the distinction as the fairest golfer of them all — a testament to our user demographics (more men voting for Gal than women voting for Fowler), the power of social media (Gal actively recruited voters on Twitter).”
In other words, Golf Digest’s PG alternative to “F***, Marry, Kill” may not have been entirely accurate.
I, for one, am outraged.

That pic looks great, and she is certainly hot, but in person and in golf clothes anyway, Creamer takes her.

Could have commented on Trump or a truly lovely person inside and out. Chose Sandra. (Can you imagine one of those wind generators catching Trump’s hair just right? We have lift-off.)

I thought it odd that the LPGA is about 2/3s Asian women yet Golf Digest could only find like 3 attractive enough to enter the contest. A more cynical person might see a little racism in that. BTW I wonder if any of the golf experts will ever just come out and say that for the LPGA to be really successful the dominant player has to be really attractive.

@Breaker – I don’t think that they need to be “really attactive”, but they need to be decent looking. Ochoa fit that mold, Sorenstam, just barely.

@ Breaker and Brian,
Either attractive, or just really compelling in some way (such as captivating personality). For example, someone like Laura Davies or Christina Kim are perhaps not the most attractive to many, but their personalities are interesting and divisive, and they would make fascinating dominant players that could boost the LPGA profile.
But honestly, I think the same applies to male golfers. People just don’t talk about it as much. Luke Donald is a great player, but he’s a total snooze IMO, and he gets little attention from outside of the small golf bubble.
