In an effort to rediscover her most potent form, women’s world No1 Yani Tseng has parted ways with Melbourne native Jason Hamilton, her caddie of two years.
The 23-year-old, a three-time winner on the LPGA Tour this year, last broke par in a competitive round nearly six weeks ago, at the ShopRite LPGA Classic in New Jersey.
Hamilton, with whom the Taiwanese collected 16 of her 26 professional victories, learned of his dismissal during a telephone conversation with Tseng on Tuesday.
The decision, he explained to Golfweek’s Beth Ann Baldry, didn’t come as a shock.
“I wasn’t surprised at all. Things have been weird for four or five weeks.”
Hamilton will return to the PGA Tour in the employ of New Zealand’s Danny Lee, for whom he has caddied in the past, while Tseng, yet to settle upon his replacement, is scheduled to begin her preparation for the Evian Masters.

Caddies are clearly very important to the success of a golfer and yet any time one wins, the golfer never seems to give credit to – and name – their caddie.. why is that?
I have often heard Rickie Fowler us “we” when speaking of a tournament or round recap. Assuming he’s lumping his caddie in on that.
Caddies are just another piece of equipment to the pros. If it doesn’t like they are working for them they’re gone.
Apparently Yani’s caddie voted for Cristie Kerr as the best golfer — ESPY
I’m a big fan of Cristie and I like Yani too, but the public vote for CK over Yani is exactly why the public should never get to decide these things.
I didn’t watch. Did CK actually go up on stage to accept that award? How do you fall to Rolex #8, not win an event, and get that award? How do you walk up on stage and accept that award?
Cristie was not at the ESPYs. And CK said after the award was announced that she would have voted for Yani, but of course she thanked everyone that voted for her
Thanks. Glad for her she wasn’t there. That would have been an awkward award to accept given the circumstances. I thought that if it wasn’t Yani then it might have been Lexi since she had her two wins (LPGA, LET) and would have been the more popular American choice even if Stacy Lewis had more and better wins.
BTW – Get better soon Stephanie Wei.
You can’t fire yourself, so when it is time to make a change the caddie is gone.
give larry smich a call
I wonder if the fact that NYC won with a new caddy on her bag had anything to do with it?
I don’t see this a big deal. The player caddie relationship is important, so if Yani felt like she needed a change, so be it. It doesn’t mean he wasn’t doing his job, more likely just meant she needed to shake things up a bit.
“I wasn’t surprised at all. Things have been weird for four or five weeks.”
Mmmm, Maybe I’m reading into this comment a little too much but I know when things have got weird between me and some of my friends or colleagues, its because of the nocturnal practice sessions
Sometimes a change of caddy can made a difference for the player. It’s like a new relationship and it might just turn things around for her.
