Like I said, I’m late for the group whiskey tasting soiree (we’re staying at a Whiskey Distillery in Cape Breton Island), but I just wanted to post a few teaser pics from my round at Cabot Links this afternoon — which I thoroughly enjoyed despite the cold weather and my back pain. The course isn’t finished yet — only 10 holes opened to the public in July — but we had the privilege of playing all 18.
I’m hoping to get an interview with the architect and one of the guys behind the project. Mike Keiser, one of the developers of Bandon Dunes, is also one of the developers of the Cabot Links project. And the course has been dubbed the “Bandon of the East.”
Here are a few more pics…for tonight…Enjoy!
I’m playing again tomorrow morning (woot!). And I’ll have more pics and details about the course over the next few days!

Wow!! Looks amazing. Btw, if you haven’t read “Dream Golf”, the story of the making of Bandon Dunes, you should get it immediately and read it on the flight back to civilization. It is an awesome read. I read it whenever I want to transport myself back to Bandon.
Also, I’d be wary of referring to Mike Keiser as “one of the developers of Bandon” as I’m pretty sure that he is “THE developer of Bandon.”
Looking forward to more pix.

Cabot indeed looks amazing.
Just as Mike Keiser is THE developer of Bandon Dunes, Ben Cowan-Dewar is THE developer of Cabot and who you should be interviewing. Mike has invaluable insight into projects like this as well as a bucket of cash but make no mistake who changed his life to make this project happen. BEN!
I played there last month (in perfect conditions which was a treat).
Some similarities to Bandon Dunes. But one feature that is very cool is that Cabot Links is actually adjacent to the town of Inverness. As a result, it avoids that resort-ish feel and is a little more like the GB&I links experience.
Ms. Wei – if you are going to interview Keiser or Cowan-Dewar, be sure to ask about the property to the north. A number of locals told me that if there is enough early traffic on Cabot Links, that they are going to build another 18 about a mile north and put in a lodge there.
(PS – that is Whisky without an “e” – I think the Glenora distillery was in a long legal fight with Scotch distillers to win the right to spell it that way – “Whiskey” is for rye, bourbon or other forms of digestible paint remover)
Hi,
While you are in Cape Breton try and find the time to play Highland Links in Ingonish. It is a fantastic Stanley Thompson design that Is among the highest reated in Canada.
Cheers,
Erik
Heard the joke about golf buddies Bing Crosby and Phil Harris as they drove past a whisky distillery in the evening after golfing. the night shift was coming in. Harris had a reputation as a two fister drinker.
Bing said, “Phil, they’re making it faster than you can drink it.”
“But I’ve got them working nights,” Harris answered
Its like you read my thoughts! You appear to understand a lot about this, such as you wrote the guide in it or something. I feel that you can do with a few percent to force the message home a little bit, however instead of that, this is great blog. An excellent read. I will certainly be back.
