Poignant scene on the 18th green after Reid secures the victory
England’s Melissa Reid closed out on the 54-hole overnight lead to capture the Raiffeisenbank Prague Golf Masters on the Ladies European Tour. Playing in her first tournament since the tragic death of her mother four weeks ago in a car accident in Germany, Reid kept her composure as she rolled in a six-footer on the 18th green for the win. “To be honest I wasn’t that nervous. I think with something like what’s happened to my family and me the last four weeks nothing really seems that difficult any more,” said Reid, who finished on a nine under par total of 207, after rounds of 68, 67 and 72.
“I spoke to my coach when I went back a couple of weeks after and he said to me, ‘I don’t know when it’s going to be, but this will make you a stronger person’, and my best friends have said that as well and I honestly think it will.
“It will make me fight and nothing will seem as bad as what I’ve been through, so yeah, I actually felt very calm and I knew I was going to hole the putt on 18.”
I literally have goosebumps right now. What an inspiring story — and it certainly puts things in perspective.

Sometimes after your heart is broken, you learn that you still have quite a bit of heart left. Great play is always rewarded, but under extreme stress, it’s extra special.
I met both Melissa and her mother during the 2006 Curtis Cup and US Womens Amatuer in Oregon. Joy was probably one of the nicest people that I’ve ever met. Mel was a fiesty competitor who I thought would have a unbelievable LET & LPGA career. I was saddened to hear of the tragedy/loss & am so happy to hear of her latest victory. One heck of an accomplishment for a young lady who has been through so much. To Joy!
