2010 US Open champion Graeme McDowell is breaking what’s become somewhat of a tradition for golf’s major winners to recite the Top Ten List on the Late Show With David Letterman the following Monday night.
UK scribes in the media room say Graeme McDowell turned down the opportunity because he didn’t want to make the cross-country trip just to read dumb jokes from the teleprompter. (Smart man.) Instead, he’ll appear on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno to sit on the couch and chat with Leno. (What’s the over/under on Leno cracking jokes about Irish people drinking?)
Chalk up a major victory for NBC and Leno.

Ugh. I completely understand him not wanting to travel to New York right after winning a major championship, but Leno? C’mon. I really wish Conan still had “Tonight,” it would be worth watching.

Whatevs; he should do the Daily Show first! Or maybe Colbert.

Maybe he doesn’t want to infringe on Obama’s turf: everywhere he goes all he does is read stupid shit off of a teleprompter.

Graeme thinks Letterman is a jerk, which I concur. Graeme adroitly side-stepped the issue by referring to the travel schedule.

Maybe that’s why Eric Stangel posted the snide tweet;
“PGA: Graeme McDowell wins US Open. He’ll be remembered alongside previous champions like whoever the hell won last year”
@EricStangel bio decscribes himself
“Head Writer/Exec Producer Late Show w/ David Letterman, winner 1st @BobGlauber Sports Tweeting Award, named 1 of CNBC most influential sports tweeters of ’09″
I’m sure Lucas Glover, who did appear on Letterman, will be delighted to see he’s held in such high regard by Stangel too!
“influential sports tweeter” Hah!

The best would be if Graeme went on Craig Ferguson’s show. Ferguson being quite the witty Scot, I’m sure THAT would be the most entertaining scenario.
