Tiger Woods announced via Twitter that he’s returning to competition at next week’s WGC-Bridgestone Invitational:
“Feeling fit and ready to tee it up at Firestone next week. Excited to get back out there!”
Whoa, I’m a little surprised by this Thursday evening announcement — you know, he usually waits ’til closer to the 5pm ET Friday deadline! I can’t say I’m disappointed to hear the news!
“I’m excited to get back out there,” said Woods, who has been idle since withdrawing from The PLAYERS Championship after nine holes on May 12 after sustaining a mild medial collateral ligament strain to his left knee and aggravating a strained left Achilles tendon.
Both injuries were originally occurred during the third round of the Masters, when Woods hit a recovery shot out of pine straw on the 17th hole. He went on to shoot 74, but followed with a 67 on Sunday and tied for fourth.
Following the advice of his doctors, Woods has rested and rehabbed his left leg, and just recently began hitting practice balls.
Tiger has won the WGC event at Firestone seven times, but struggled terribly last year when he shot 18-over for the tournament.
Sources are reporting that childhood friend and enabler Bryon Bell will loop for Tiger next week.
Now several questions remain unanswered: 1) When did he start hitting balls again? 2) Has he played and walked a round of golf yet? 3) Assuming Bell is just filling in temporarily, who will Tiger pick as a permanent replacement for Stevie? 4) Swing coach Sean Foley said earlier this week he hadn’t worked with Tiger and had no idea about his plans — was he bluffing? (He’s smart, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he was playing dumb.)
*Update, 7/28 9pm: Foley hasn’t seen Tiger hit balls yet this week, but says via text, “I will see Tiger tomorrow (Friday).”

One more question: Will he cross that Bridgestone when he gets to it?
Seriously, for the last year and a half he’s been announcing by at least Weds, a who two days early (except for the players this year)
hmmmm that last didn’t really work out for him to well though
Does this mean he is playing in the PGA? Seems a bit soon. He has only been out 2 months. I figured he would be out a lot longer as he was clear that he would not return until his “recovery” was complete.
Hey, this guy is fresh off the boat, no?
I joked w. you on Facebook, but I really wonder about all this. I’m wondering if in the heat of competition, he will always have a bit of a worry in the back of his mind that this problem could happen again at any moment.
According to Rude over in golfweek he worked with Foley yesterday. Think the key word in Foley’s statement was “we”
“Tiger” Who?
Gotta get reps, so he picks a no cut event. Smart.
Nice get Stephanie
I guess that Florida canal cruise did the trick. I wonder if Byron Bell helped to arrange that “nanny”?
@Shoshana, I asked Foley if he worked with Tiger yesterday, he said (or texted) “incorrect,” but he’s seeing him tomorrow.
That’s what I get for reading golfweek, from now on only using this site for news
Yay!! Finally!!!
Now let’s see if he gets paired with Adam Scott !
SO PSYCHED! we were short on news. Now we get the blonde nanny, Byron “booty” Bell on the bag, and Foley pretending he doesn’t know anything, which is the first time that ever happened.
I predict Tiger will come in 34th place.
I’ll see your 34th maxfisher, and raise you an 11th.
I see Tiger with either a DQ, WD, or DNS
So the Nr. 21 in the world decides to play a tournament? Who cares – it´s not like he comes from his rest with some magical new game. He will show up with the crap he left or even worse…
The Golf World got their cash cow back. Hoping Tiger’s fit and healthy and does well. I know lots of you want too see the man fail. For Fans of Good Golf..he’s worth the admission ticket.
Let’s face it the Golf has not been that great this year with exception of Rory @ Congressional
Let’s forget about Tiger and Rory and start talking about underappreciated players like Ricky “The only one who can kill Barnes is Barnes” Barnes and Brendon De Junk. Heck Brendon is leading at Greenbrier. GO Brendon!
I think Tiger should try to relate to his fans by preparing the way many of us prepare for a round of golf. Taking 4 months off, don’t hit a single ball – not one. Show up 10 minutes before his first round, do about 30 minutes of stretching, and go at it off the first tee ice cold. I’d pay money to see that.
I mean 30 seconds.
Has anyone tried the Tour Striker? I saw a commercial advertising it on the Golf Channel. Gary McCord swears by it! I am currently a 27 hcp looking to shave a few strokes off my game. Any thoughts?
Where is the way to the rest room?
Am I in the wrong forum?
lol @ old man power
Old man – Even if he did that he is still better than 90% of the players out there.
Down the hall, 2 doors to your left.
I agree it’ll be interesting to see Tiger back. Always looking to see how much body weight he’s lost since he hasn’t been able to hook up with Dr. Galea. I guess I didn’t know that “blood-spinning” as Tiger calls it added muscle mass. I knew that HGH added muscle mass but blood-spinning? Huh, you learn something new everyday. With that in mind it sure took him longer to come back from this injury than the others that the good Dr. Galea helped him with.
Here’s to hoping that he never wins another tournament. Cheers to the young, talented and clean players.
Welcome back Tiger!
I thought for sure Tiger would break Jack’s 18 majors. But now i am not sure he will ever even win again on the PGA. Wow, how quickly the mightly have fallen!

The Eldrick Leg Humpers strike back.
Oh thank you Peachtree for mentioning my name. Any other words of advise that I can take from your almighty position over the rest of us? And yes I have sinned; everyone can’t be as perfect as you.
I guess I thought that Stephanie allowed us to state our opinions here. I had no idea that you were the final judge of what we can write.
Now that I know that you sit at the right hand of the all-mighty can you tell us all where Tiger will finish next week? My guess not in the top ten. Care to offer up yours?
Great caption for the picture.
